AXIS-Y Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen Review

WE GOT MARRIED
It's been more than a year we got engaged and finally, we sealed the deal on the 1st of January in 2022! There were so many other couples in the place we held our ROM and we were so lucky to have gotten ourselves a really good and patient photographer from @jensproduction (their Instagram name). We were also very lucky that it wasn't very sunny that day. Nevertheless, I still made sure that I had my sunscreen on and I relied on AXIS-Y's Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen to keep my skin shielded.

You can find the ingredient list on the outside of the box. It is available in both English and Korean.

YAS, THE GOOD ONES
Zinc Oxide has the ability to heal epidermal wounds, burns, rashes, skin oiliness, infections and acne. Unlike many chemical sunscreens, it protects against UVA and UVB light rays and is often used as a natural, non-toxic sunscreen to prevent burns, signs of photo-ageing and irritation.

The existence of Titanium Dioxide in this sunscreen is what makes it a physical sunscreen as it has the ability to deflect and scatter the skin-damaging UV rays to keep our skin protected.

Niacinamide is a vitamin B3 derivatives best known for its skin brightening properties. It can reduce pigmentation as it prevents melanin from migrating to the epidermis. I've seen it featured in many of Klairs products. With this, this product is able to help bring out the glow and give the dull skin a good makeover.  Not just that, it also has anti-ageing and anti-inflammatory properties, allowing it to help reduce the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion! There are debates on whether Vitamin C should be used with Niacinamide. So just to put it upfront, The Ordinary suggested that there might be contraindications if topical Vitamin C such as L-Ascorbic Acid and/or Ethylated L-Ascorbic Acid is used as part of skincare. They recommend that it should be applied at alternate times with this formula (ideally Vitamin C in the PM and this formula in the AM). Otherwise, Niacinamide can affect the integrity of Vitamin C.

YAS, THE GOOD ONES (contd.)
Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract is used as a medicinal herb, dye and cooking ingredient. The petals, pollen and stems are rich in triterpenoid esters (an anti-inflammatory), antioxidants and carotenoids, which is good for calming down the skin and acne!

Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract is a rich source of epigallocatechin gallate, which is one of the most powerful antioxidants available. Moreover, Green Tea Extract is a good anti-inflammatory agent. It can help reduce skin inflammation (go away acnes!) and inhibit the action of collagenase (an enzyme that breaks down collagen).

For ages, Artemisia Capillaris is used in Eastern medicine to cure a variety of diseases. Its extract, Artemisia Capillaris Flower Extract, is anti-bacterial and has skin-brightening properties. That means its existence in this sunscreen can help us combat sunspots.

Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract offers protection against environmental factors and can help brighten the skin as it contains a high level of antioxidants. Not just that, it also has omega acids that can help firm and nourish the skin and dozens of naturally-occurring chemical compounds that aid in skin repair and rejuvenation, cellular turnover, detoxification and evening of skin tone.

It has a very special dropper in a tube design which helps control the amount of product that we squeeze out each time nicely.

YAS, THE GOOD ONES (contd.)
Adenosine is an amazing anti-wrinkle ingredient. It is capable of boosting the levels of proteins such as Collagen and Elastin, thereby reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and promoting wound healing. Adenosine can also effectively improve acne caused by oily skin!

Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamin E) is a major lipid-soluble antioxidant in the skin. It protects the skin against peroxide and pro-oxidants and can prevent oxidation in cosmetics. If Vitamin E levels are insufficient, harmful foreign substances can easily invade as our skin's protective function will be weakened. This can cause our skin to age faster. Hence, by ensuring our skin gets the vitamin E it needs, we can slow down cell ageing by reducing lipid peroxidation. Vitamin E can also help soften our skin and soothe inflammation as well as protect our skin against sun damage. Now that I recall, my orthopaedic surgeon has actually prescribed me a vitamin E cream for the scars on my knee after my knee surgery.

This sunscreen is suitable for all skin types.

YAS, THE GOOD ONES (contd.)
Then, we have Allantoin. An ingredient that aims to improve dry and rough skin as it provides our skin with intensive moisture. Being a skin conditioner, it is also known for its ability to soothe irritated skin and protect our skin from external irritants and dirt.

Butylene Glycol is a powerful moisturiser. Hence this could potentially be a lifesaver for those of you with extremely dry skin!

Lastly, Glycerin can help keep the skin hydrated and keep the overactive oil glands under control.

NAH, THE BAD ONES
If you have oily skin, Stearic Acid can potentially clog pores as it has a comedogenic rating of 3.
Other than that, this AXIS-Y Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen is good to go!

Applying it on my hand.

PUT ON THAT SHADE
I am a big fan of sunscreen. It keeps my skin protected from UVA and UVB rays which can make my skin age faster. I always make sure that the sunscreens I use have at least SPF30 with PA+++ (read my sunblock guide here) and this AXIS-Y Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen gives me more than that. It is loaded with skin-loving ingredients and has SPF50 with PA++++. Isn't that amazing?! According to AXIS-Y, it is also ISO Internationally certified!

After spreading it out on one half of my hand.

SMELLS LIKE MUGWORT
AXIS-Y is telling the truth when they said the sunscreen contains mugwort because it smells exactly like it. The smell lasts quite a long time when it's on the skin. For me, I find the smell very relaxing so it's not a problem for me at all. But if you are not a fan of a strong smell, you may not want to put this at the top of your list of the best sunscreen to buy.

After fully patting it in, it will leave a semi-dewy finish.

WHITE CREAM WITHOUT WHITE CAST
I have tested this multiple times and I would conclude that it does not give a white cast, at least not noticeable to me, even under a very strong flashlight. Its white cream texture is very light and it blends into the skin comfortably every time I put it on. It will leave a semi-dewy finish which is somehow smooth to touch after it has fully dried down. That came as a surprise to me because I always have the mindset that cream-type sunblock will leave the skin oily but apparently, that is not the case here.

This is how it looks after under flash, there is no white cast.

HOW TO USE
At the final step of your morning skincare routine, apply an appropriate amount of sunscreen to the face and neck. Massage the skin gently and pat it a little to aid the absorption. It gives a healthy glow to the skin so I will sometimes leave the house with just the sunscreen and a bit of concealer, without any foundation. You can use a powder to tone down the shine based on your personal preference. Rest assured that even if you do decide to put on foundation, it will not pill at all.

I wore it on my marriage registration day and my skin still looks fresh even after 8 hours of wearing the sunscreen.

YOU HAVE TO TRY IT
I think it is fair to say this is by far one of the best physical sunscreens that I have come across. It gives a decent amount of protection to the skin (SPF 50, PA++++), has a beautiful semi-dewy finish and is loaded with tonnes of great ingredients that are beneficial to the skin. Now I understand why it was totally sold out on AXIS-Y's Website and was only restocked in December 2021. Personally, I'm going to stick with this sunscreen at least for the next few years until something better comes along.
