SUPER DRY
My lips are unreasonably dry, no matter how much water I consume. I have trouble keeping even the most moisturising lipstick on without getting cracked lips 1-2 hours after application. This is very troubling especially when I am out on dates and it lowers my confidence. I feel less attractive and am constantly trying to moisture my lips with my saliva, which only aggravates the issue. So I am on a mission to look for the best lip moisturiser, join me?

YAS, THE GOOD ONES
Let's do a quick refresh of Chemistry 😂. Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate is the ester of 2-ethylhexyl alcohol and methoxycinnamic acid. When used in a skincare/cosmetic product, it can act as a sunscreen agent to protect the skin as well as as an ultraviolet light absorber to protect the product itself.
Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil offers protection against environmental factors and can help brighten the skin as it contains high level of antioxidants. Not just that, it also has omega acids that can help firm and nourish the skin and dozens of naturally-occurring chemical compounds that aid in skin repair and rejuvenation, cellular turnover, detoxification and evening of skin tone.
Collagen is a protein we have naturally which provides strength and structure. It can be found in our bones, skin, muscle and tendons. Since the age of 20, we lose approximately 1% of our collagen each year. The more we lose, the more fine lines and wrinkles appear. By using products with collagen, we stimulate the synthesis of new collagen production and this can reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles and fine lines. It also encourages cell renewal and minimises facial muscle contraction, which is responsible for the development of wrinkles.
NAH, THE BAD ONES
Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate can potentially be a skin irritant for those who have sensitive skin so if you know your skin does not deal well with products containing Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, you might want to be cautious with this Mizon Lip Essence!
Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil has a comedogenic rating of 3 and might cause breakouts if you have oily skin.
PATCH TESTING
I strongly encourage you to patch test before applying it all over your face. Just swab a small amount of the product on your wrist or behind your ear and wait around 1 day to see how your skin reacts. If your skin experiences any burning effect or has any irritation that is not supposed to accompany the product, wash it off immediately and seek medical attention if the irritation doesn’t go away after washing.
HOW TO USE
It comes in a tube and all you need to do is gently squeeze a little out on the tip like how you would with a toothpaste. Then with the little amount of lip gloss on the tip, swipe it across your lower lip directly. Press your lower lip against the upper lip before you decide if you want to top up a layer on the upper lip. This prevents you from over-applying the lip gloss and can help lengthen the life of the lip gloss since it is considered quite pricey.
BRINGING IN THE SENSES
It gives a glossy finish and is very moisturising on the lips. I do not recommend using it in a very windy weather because your hair can constantly get stuck on your lips, which is very uncomfortable. But living in a tropical country like Malaysia, this Collagenic Aqua Volume Lip Essence by Mizon is a life saviour because it helps my lips stay moist all day (with re-application) and preventing it from cracking. It has a sweet but mild scent and it doesn't have any taste at all.
WHAT CAN I DO WITH IT?
I like to put this on at night before I go to sleep. Because the next morning when I wake up, my lips are soft and plump like never before. My lipsticks glide on just perfectly and that's the best feeling ever. Sometimes I use it as a base for my lip tint to protect my lips and on top of my lipstick to give my lips a glossy finish. There are also days where I use it on its own to keep my lips moisturised and protected from the harsh UV lights since it has an SPF of 10.
SHOULD YOU BUY?
I have tried numerous lip balms and lip glosses but none of them is like this one. I would totally recommend you to give it a try because this is by far my favourite lip moisturiser. Its price though, is a little up there and I can't find it anywhere in Malaysia (not even in Mizon official store) so it can be a little difficult to get hold of. But Amazon is still carrying it (no guarantee on the authenticity) so maybe you can give it a try there?
