Petal Velvet Sunaway SPF 50+ PA++++ With Sebum Control

GETTING A REPLACEMENT!
It's always a problem for me to find the perfect suncream that controls sebum but gives me enough protection at the same time. I've found one but it is running out very fast as I was using it daily and it is super expensive for its size. I was ready for a repurchase but the moment I looked at my bank account, I knew I HAVE to find an alternative. 😭 Lucky for me, I stumbled upon Althea's very new baby: Petal Velvet Sunaway SPF 50+ PA++++.

YAS, THE GOOD ONES
Zinc Oxide has the ability to heal epidermal wounds, burns, rashes, skin oiliness, infections and acne. Unlike many chemical sunscreens, it protects against UVA and UVB light rays and is often used as a natural, non-toxic sunscreen to prevent burns, signs of photo-ageing and irritation.

The tip is small and easy to dispense especially since the cream is rather watery.

YAS, THE GOOD ONES (contd.)
Having Titanium Dioxide makes this moisturiser a physical sunscreen as it has the ability to deflect and scatter the skin-damaging UV rays to keep our skin protected.

Rosa Damascena is very fragrant pink rose. Its extract, Rosa Damascena Flower Extract can deeply hydrate our skin and soothe irritations as its petals contain skin-soothing and antioxidant compounds. Not just that, inhaling its scent can help our mind relax.

Butylene Glycol is a powerful moisturiser. Hence this is totally alright to use if you have dry skin!

NAH, THE BAD ONES
Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Oil is an essential oil derived from the herbal plant, Salvia officinalis. It is usually used as a fragrance ingredient. At high concentration, it can possibly irritate sensitive skin. So do be careful (patch test! I just can't stress this enough) when you are using this for the first time especially if you have extremely sensitive skin.

If you have oily skin, Stearic Acid can potentially clog pores as it has a comedogenic rating of 3.

Everything is in Korean.

GETTING A SUNCREAM
I know how hard it is when it comes to choosing the right suncream. Maybe you can take a look at this "How to Choose the Right Sunblock" post before you decide it's too hard a decision to make. As a starter, I always recommend a suncream of at least SPF 30 PA++. Althea's Petal Velvet Sunaway definitely meet the criteria so there's one less problem to worry about. So, what about its stickiness? Is it greasy? Does it leave a white cast? We shall find out soon!

WHAT IS SPECIAL
This Petal Velvet Sunaway is ultra lightweight. With an SPF of 50+ and PA++++, it gives a high level of protection to our skin. As a part of the Petal Velvet line, it also contains micro-powder particles like the Petal Velvet Powders that give our skin a smooth, petal-like complexion. Before using, it's important to remember to shake it. This helps mix the ingredients inside so that you don't get a puddle of water without the cream.

The cream is watery, very different from other suncream that I've used before.

HOW TO USE
Simple! Just pour out a 1cm diameter and start applying! Topping up as you required and reapply as you go, especially if you're going under the sun for more than a few hours and you sweat. Despite the high protection, I do still recommend trying to use an umbrella or a hat to prevent direct sunlight from hitting your skin. It's better to be safe than sorry and double protection can never go wrong. :)

STICKY? GREASY?
These two are certainly not the "characteristics" of this suncream. It is not oily or sticky at all. When I was putting it on, it felt a little uncomfortable and the smell is very very herbally heavy (very likely from the rose itself and the essential oils). But just a while after application, the smell slowly dissipates (I tried to cover it up using my Heimish Facial Mist ðŸ˜‚) and my skin just felt velvety smooth like how its name suggests. It's like I've put on a layer of powder even though I haven't!

Testing the oiliness using an oil blotting paper. The blotting paper just wouldn't stick and it stays clean! Conclusion: not oily or sticky at all!

WHAT ABOUT WHITE CAST?
This is what worries me the most. I saw Zinc Oxide and Titanium Oxide in it and my mind straightaway went "uh-oh'. They are normally the culprit behind white cast and I don't like that. But Althea never ceases to surprise me. Not only there is no white cast, my skin looks very hydrated and semi-dewy after putting on the suncream. You can look at a picture of my hand below with and without flash and see the magic for yourselves.

Without flash: it doesn't look like it has white cast.

With flash: There is certainly no white cast!

WOULD I RECOMMEND?
Hmm, I would say, YES! Despite the smell, this is a 55ml sunblock that costs only RM43 and has a protection of SPF50+ PA++++. It is considered extremely high in terms of protection and with the price point and the volume, it is definitely a value buy. About the smell, it takes some getting used to but that's not really a huge problem. It is not sticky, not oily and does not leave a white cast. I mean, quality doesn't always come easy with this price point, you should definitely give it a try!
