|REVIEW| [StyleKorea] So Natural Facial Design Pink Mud Mask

DIE HARD FAN
I love clay mask. I put on clay mask at least once a week to draw out all the impurities and dirt that I "collected" in my pores during the week. But clay masks sometimes create quite a mess and it takes a lot of time just to put on and wash off. Despite how much I love the after- effect, sometimes I just feel too lazy having to use a brush to put on the mask, wash it off (that takes at least 10 minutes every time grr) and clean the bathroom floor afterwards. Yes, it dirties the floor all the time.

PINK BLOSSOM BOX
There's this one day I saw this Pink Mud Mask from So Natural being offered on Style Korean. It's not just any mud mask. It is a sheet mud mask (or mud sheet mask?). There's nothing more exciting than finding a mud mask in the form of sheet mask! So I know what I had to do. I grabbed it without even thinking and a few days later, it came in an adorable light pink box that brings out the very girly side of me (yeap, I had to put in the "very" HAHA).

All Korean!

EVERYTHING IS IN KOREAN
At first I was a little worried seeing the packaging in only Korean. Luckily StyleKorean had foreseen this and had included a detailed guide on its website for us not-Korean-enough Korean beauty lovers LOL. But the most important thing wasn't included: the ingredient list. After doing some digging around the internet and with the help of Google translate, I finally managed to get the complete and correct list below.

INGREDIENT LIST

Water, Butylene Glycol, Bentonite, Polysorbate 80, Glycerin, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract, Taraxacum Officinale (Dandelion) Extract, Hibiscus Sabdariffa Flower Extract, Lycium Chinense Fruit Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ethyl Ascorbyl Ether, *Stearic Acid, Xanthan Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Tromethamine, Morus Alba Fruit Extract, Hydrolysed Collagen, Fragrance, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Morus Alba Leaf Extract, Allantoin, Panthenol, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Disodium EDTA

Bolded are the good/star ingredients in the product whereas underlined are those flagged as 4 & above under 'Safety index' in by EWG. Safety index ranges from 1-9 and the lower the number means the less hazardous. Those with asterisk (*) are more likely to cause acne or irritate skin than those without.

So excited to tear open the mask ahh~!

YAS, THE GOOD ONES
You can read more about the bolded ingredients by clicking on them. Once on the page, just search for the ingredient names and it will lead you straight to the relevant paragraphs that talk about the ingredients.

Morus Alba it also known as Mulberry. Its Leaf/Fruit/Bark Extracts are known for their potential to brighten and improve the look of uneven skin tone. It also works as an antioxidant and appears to be non-irritating according to Paula's Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary.

The Bentonite (activated volcanic ash) inside the mask together with a blend of plant extract can detoxify and cleanse the skin. With Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate and Panthenol, it also provides hydration and a nutrient boost to give us clear, radiant complexion. How true is that? Let us find out!

Promotes Wound Healing: Panthenol
Brightening: Morus Alba Leaf Extract, Ethyl Ascorbyl Ether & Morus Alba Fruit Extract

Peeking into the mask pack.

NAH, THE BAD ONES
It is a little surprising for me to find paraben in this mud mask. But since the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) concluded that parabens at the *low levels found in personal care products are not a concern. I've been relying on CIR for all of my cosmetic product reviews and I find them quite reliable, so I feel okay to let this one go.

*p.s. Concentration of an ingredient is normally indicated by its position in the ingredient list. More highly positioned equals to more highly concentrated.

Before I put on the mask, let me spray some rose water on hehe.

This Heimish Bulgarian Rose Water Mist Serum (which I reviewed in my DIY mask post) is my current favourite mist! I'm using it as a toner here to prepare my skin for the mask.

GET IT GOING
To be frank, I didn't know what to expect when I was opening the package. I didn't go online to read/watch any reviews for fear that I will become biased. So I just left it to my own discovery. I love love love the smell (so much so I had to say it three times haha)! It smells exactly like the Sam & Sean Ghassoul Clay Mask which is pleasant, refreshing and not clay mask-ish to me at all. Now the part that scared me: application.

The white layer which you're supposed to peel LAST.

DID NOT EXPECT
I seriously didn't know what was waiting for me. All that was in my mind was: how can a mud/clay mask come in the form of sheet mask? When I saw the mask itself, for a second I was thinking, "oh no, this is going to create a mess", because the whole thing just looked like clay mask and it looked very liquid to me. After carefully pulling the mask out of the package, I realised I was wrong LOL. It's actually just a normal sheet mask, made of fibre and had both sides coloured in pink mud.

Follow me:
Since I peeled the wrong part first, I don't want to show it here in case I mislead any of you. So here's after I've put on the mask and spent some time smoothening it out on my skin. Upper part goes on first!

INTERESTING TO PUT ON
So.... because I did not do my research and was reluctant to do a quick translation on the site, I ended up adhering the wrong side of the mask to my face. Both sides of the mask are protected by a layer of plastic. One is transparent and another is white in colour. You have to remove the transparent side the stick that to your face. But I personally find that both sides look the same (like totally THE same) so I think the mask still managed to work its magic on my skin.

After that just go ahead and put on the bottom part. You should be able to get them overlapped. Also, make sure to pull the extra part on the chin side to have it wrapped around your chin.

WOAH WAIT WHAT
Wait! Before you open up yours, let me warn you. You're going to need at least 40-50 minutes for this mask. So if you are looking to get a quick deep cleansing in 15 minutes, this is not your friend. Other than that, this mask is perfect. It clings on the skin very well like a sloth clinging to a tree. During this period while it slowly dries down and changes colour, the pink mud will absorb sebum, impurities, and dust. My skin tighten a little during this and according to So Natural, this is expected!

YOU GET TWO!
In case you haven't noticed, this So Natural Facial Design Pink Mud Mask comes in two pieces, i.e. separate top and bottom pieces. The quality of the mask also allows it to follow the contour of the face. With these features, I felt that my face is getting the most optimal coverage, allowing my skin to receive the full benefits of the mask. That being said, you know I adore the fit of this mask. Although it did take me some time to position it around my face (mind you, it is quite difficult to position it nicely).

Can you see the colour difference?

LIKE A CHAMELEON
I'm not sure if it's because I was in an air-conditioned room, I felt a little cooling effect too during the application of the mask. When my mask has totally dried up, it turned into a lighter shade of pink. You can compare the colour to the overlapping part of the mask to be sure. You will also feel a tightening effect the renders you expressionless at that moment haha. That means it is time for you to slowly peel it off from the bottom.

Peeling from the bottom (I was following the illustration on the back of the mask haha).

IT DOESN'T HURT, RIGHT?
Seeing how well it was adhering to my skin, I was terrified. Am I looking at a peel-off mask that is going to peel of my hair? This mask is sitting on top of my eyebrows! OMG I'm going to be hairless. All those thoughts just rushed to my mind and I panicked a little. But I still went ahead and started peeling from the bottom. Okay, it actually didn't hurt at all. With a little tugging, the mask came off in one piece and guess what? My eyebrows are still where they were.

Look at the white cast and residues! My eye areas really do look dark, don't they?

LET THE SKIN TALK
I was immediately awed by how white my skin looks LOL. It left a white cast that made me look like  I hadn't slept for days because my eye areas are significantly darker (not sure if it is showing up on the camera). It also left behind some white residue on my eyebrows and around my hairline. All those white babies were easily washed away when I rinsed my skin with lukewarm water, so nothing to be worried!

The most prominent effect I see here is how my pores have seemingly disappeared (circled) after using the mask!

ALL IN ALL
I'm so going to snatch more of this when it is on sale! Can you see how convenient this is? Like man, I don't have to wash the bathroom floor every time after using a clay mask! It can help me save time and time is the one thing that I lack the most now. Other than money. And food. And sleep. My skin felt really smooth to touch and was not dry at all after using the mask, thanks to the above-mentioned ingredients! Highly recommended (if you have the budget)!
