|BEAUTY TIPS| DIY Own Sheet Mask With Dr. Douxi & Heimish

how to diy my own mask

THAT WILL BE ENOUGH
Lately life hasn't been as fun. There had been a few times where I wanted to call the person who took out the fun to put a stop to it. But I can't, so what is there to do? There are always going to be people who can't wrap their petty minds around certain things and are always trying to pick fights. So I always try to remind myself that life goes on without them and the only type of people I need to keep around me is those that bring positivity to my life.

BRING BACK THE FUN
HAHA I know I'm causing a lot of confusion there but I just needed to rant. I can't say all those directly to the people I wanted to. So let's just hope they pay a visit here, read all these and know that my finger is pointing at them HAHA! Phew, it feels good having all that vented out. Now now, let's do a mask to destress, shall we? How about... a DIY mask today? Let's bring back the fun and make a DIY mask with two of Dr. Douxi's products and the Bulgarian Rose Water Mist from Heimish!

DR. DOUXI SKIN TONING LOTION

Dr. Douxi Skin Toning Lotion (255ML for RM98)

INGREDIENT LIST
I didn't want to use water as my main ingredient for my DIY mask. So I decided to bring in a toner. This is Skin Toning Lotion, a toner from Dr. Douxi. Its main ingredients are Pearl barley, Witch Hazel, Aesculus and Hyaluronic Acid. From the list below, we can tell that this is a very hydrating toner (it contains Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol and Sodium Hyaluronate). But this not-so-little one contains paraben.

p.s. You can read more about the ingredients by clicking on them. Once on the page, just search for the ingredient names and it will lead you straight to the relevant paragraphs that talk about the ingredients.

Purified Water, Butylene Glycol, Ethyl Alcohol (Alcohol), *Sorbitan Oleate, Glycerin, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water, *Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan) Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Methyl Paraben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Coix Lacryma-Jobi (Job's Tears) Seed Extract, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, PVM/MA Copolymer, Chlorphenesin, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizinate (Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate), Aesculus Hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut) Seed Extract, Allantoin, Fragrance, *Ylang Ylang (Cananga Odorata) Oil (Cananga Odorata Flower Oil), *Menthol, Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, lodopropynyl Butylcarbamate

USED AS A TONER
Its liquid is cloudy and it has a very pleasant smell when used as a toner. I've been using it day and night as a toner to prep my skin after I've washed my face with the Eggshell Cream Soap from the same brand. So far it didn't break me out and I love how my skin feels like it just had a drink of water after using the toner. It is also absorbed very easily by my skin and I don't normally use it with a cotton. Instead I just pour some on my hand and pat my face with it.

It can calm, brighten and hydrate the skin and act as an astringent.

THERE IS A LOT
Because this babe has 255ml, it is going to last me a looooong time. If you looked carefully at the pictures above, you could see that even after two weeks of use, there is still a lot of it. Moreover, it is only RM98, so it is definitely going to be worth it! From what I read around, this is also suitable for all skin type. But you know me, I would always recommend patch testing to avoid any complications!

SING THE PRAISE
If I'm going to DIY a sheet mask, I'd never miss out adding in some essential oil. That's why I've got this one here. I got this from CheriCheri.co, a Malaysian online beauty retailer, together with the Skin Toning Lotion above. This one has a mind-calming smell. I like the design of the bottle because it comes with a pump design. It's much easier to control the amount of product I want to use with a pump.

INGREDIENT LIST

Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, *Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Paraffin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba), Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil, *Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Root Extract, Fragrance

OILY AND SLIPPERY
I was a little shocked to see paraffin in this. But because of its presence, it allows the Essence Oil to be smeared and rubbed into my skin more easily. If you're going to use this, you may find it a little troublesome as you have to wash your hands every time after application before you reach out to another skincare product. So my recommendation is to use it at the very end of your routine. That way you don't have to dirty the rest of your skincare products when you forget to wash your hand!

NEWFOUND LOVE
I was tempted to try out an essential oil, but at the same time I was worried my skin wouldn't be able to take it. Luckily, my skin took it just fine. Not only was it able to absorb the oil nicely and not break out, I felt like the dryer part of my skin is finally not so dry. Also, this is why I wanted to add this in when I DIY my own mask. I've been in air-conditioned areas almost 24/7 and I felt like my skin could use a little more intense moisture than I normally provide it with.

HEIMISH BULGARIAN ROSE WATER MIST SERUM

A SPECIAL GUEST
Other than just introducing the Dr. Douxi products, I thought I could add in some rose water for my DIY mask. Firstly, it smells really nice. Secondly, the pink colour of this bottle looks really pretty on camera (HAHA) and thirdly, rose water has tonnes of benefits which my skin could really use some! It can help brighten up the skin (like the Dr. Douxi toner!) and has anti-ageing properties (something that hasn't been covered by the two products previously introduced).

Bolded are the good/star ingredients in the product whereas underlined are those flagged as 4 & above under 'Safety index' in by EWG. Safety index ranges from 1-9 and the lower the number means the less hazardous. Those with asterisk (*) are more likely to cause acne or irritate skin than those without.

HOW CAN WE FORGET?
The most important 'ingredient' to make this DIY mask makable is of course, the sheet mask itself. The one that I'm using today is a compressed cotton sheet mask that I got from ToSave.com. If you remember, I actually mentioned it in one of my earlier posts, where I talked about how to save money on beauty products especially if you have an uncontrollable urge (like me!) to spend money on beauty products.

MIX IT? HOW?
After introducing the products and item that I'm about to use, let's actually mix them and create our DIY sheet mask! I did not exactly use a teaspoon or spatula to measure how much toner I put in. Instead, I went by seeing how much of it could actually bring the compressed mask to life LOL. I think I poured in at least two tablespoons of the toner. For this part, just pour by roughly gauging how much the mask needs to fully decompress.

Pouring in the toner.

THE NEXT TWO STEPS
With the toner in, now it's time to add in the essential oil and the rose water. I used four pumps of Dr. Douxi Multi-Repair Essence Oil here, followed by one to two pumps of Heimish Bulgarian Rose Water Mist Serum. Now, here I have a little warning for you. If you're not into heavy smell, you might want to reduce the dosage of these two. The mixture of the smells can be a little overwhelming and quite hard to bear especially since you're going to leave it on your face for 15 minutes.

I put in four pumps of this. Reduce dosage if you're terrified of heavy smell!

DURING APPLICATION
Now this is the best part! After the mask has stopped dripping, put on the mask. The mask felt so cooling on my skin and I just love the fit of the compressed mask. It fits almost perfectly! Although the smell was a little too strong for me, I got accustomed to it after just a few seconds. Note to self: don't put so much rose water next time haha. You have to make sure you soak the mask with enough water so that it can adhere to your face well.

Doesn't look too bad for its price, does it? The mask even comes with eye flaps!

What difference have you noted?

IGNORE THE LIGHTING
The lighting was a little different for both pictures. But the one thing that caught my attention the most is that my skin looks a little less red and more radiant. The pores have also seemed to reduce a little in size. That's what a little of moisture can do! My skin temperature has also dropped a lot (I can feel it!) after using the mask, which I'm absolutely in love with. Did you know that our skin is more susceptible to getting acnes when it is hot?
