ALL HYPED UP!
Can't believe it is already November! It has been almost a year since I left my job at a Big Four audit firm. How time flies! Also, Taylor Swift's re-recorded album "Red" is finally out and the 10-minute version of All Too Well is seriously so good! Not just that, my November was also spent trying out some really exciting new products from AXIS-Y that were launched at the end of October. Let's explore them together, shall we?
Let's start with the AXIS-Y Aqua Boosting Essence Toner (150ML for USD18).

YAS, THE GOOD ONES
Butylene Glycol, Panthenol and Sodium Hyaluronate are all powerful moisturisers. Hence this could potentially be a lifesaver for those of you with extremely dry skin! Panthenol is also known for its ability to promote wound healing, as well as alleviate other irritations like eczema.
Glycerin can help keep the skin hydrated and keep the overactive oil glands under control.
Here we also have Allantoin, an ingredient that aims to improve dry and rough skin as it provides our skin with intensive moisture. Being a skin conditioner, it is also known for its ability to soothe irritated skin and protect our skin from external irritants and dirt.
Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Water is a rich source of epigallocatechin gallate, which is one of the most powerful antioxidants available. Moreover, it is a good anti-inflammatory agent. It can help reduce skin inflammation (go away acnes!) and inhibit the action of collagenase (an enzyme that breaks down collagen).
All the info you need to know about this AXIS-Y super hydrating toner is on the box and the bottle.
YAS, THE GOOD ONES (contd.)
Tocopherol (Vitamin E) is a major lipid-soluble antioxidant in the skin. It protects the skin against peroxide and pro-oxidants and can prevent oxidation in cosmetics. If Vitamin E levels are insufficient, harmful foreign substances can easily invade as our skin's protective function will be weakened. This can cause our skin to age faster. Hence, by ensuring our skin gets the vitamin E it needs, we can slow down cell ageing by reducing lipid peroxidation. Vitamin E can also help soften our skin and soothe inflammation as well as protect our skin against sun damage. Now that I recall, my orthopaedic surgeon has actually prescribed me a vitamin E cream for the scars on my knee after my knee surgery.
Centella Asiatica Extract is known for its skin-calming properties. Mainly found in shady and damp areas in many different parts of the world, Centella (a.k.a. tiger grass because wounded tigers were often seen rolling in it to heal their wounds) is a small plant that grows up to around six inches in height. Also called the “miracle elixirs of life”, researchers have found that Centella Asiatica Extract facilitates the healing of cuts and burns as it can promote collagen production and inhibit inflammation which results in scarring.

Lactobionic Acid is formed naturally in the human body when lactose is oxidised. It has antioxidant properties and can protect the skin from irritants in the environment. On top of that, it also can exfoliate (goodbye dead cells!) and reduce the appearance of fine lines and lighten scars. That means it can help to improve the skin tone and its elasticity.
Also known as Heart Leaf, Houttuynia Cordata is a flowering plant indigenous to Southeast Asia. Its extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial properties, thus, allowing it to soothe the skin, control sebum, refine pores and reduce germs. It is also shown in researches that the polysaccharides it contains, which when present in skincare, can act as humectants and skin hydrators, which can help to maintain the skin’s moisture levels, rendering it a beneficial ingredient in skincare for dermatitis/eczema-prone skin.
Madecassoside is one of the main bioactive compounds in the plant extract Centella Asiatica. It is an antioxidant by itself but one study showed that even a small amount of it (0.1%), when used with vitamin C, has a great antioxidant benefit when applied to the skin. It is also non-sensitising and can help revitalise our skin’s surface.
As we age, collagen in our skin is being generated more slowly than they are being broken down. This is why most of our skin gets drier and we tend to get more wrinkles and fine lines as we grow old. Hyaluronic Acid can help stimulate collagen synthesis and is wonderful at retaining our skin moisture, which makes it a magical anti-ageing ingredient because youthful-looking skin is properly moisturised, supple and with minimal wrinkles and fine lines! It is also known for its ability to promote wound healing, as well as alleviate other irritations like eczema.
NAH, THE BAD ONES
I like being able to skip this part. Skincarisma has not highlighted anything bad at all from this ingredient list! Now, let's see how it actually does!
It trickled down my face quickly when I was trying to take a picture of it haha!
A BURST OF HYDRATION
According to AXIS-Y, this is a toner that can be used daily to boost moisture in the skin. It contains 10-hyaluronic acid and six premium natural ingredients! Such a combination of ingredients can help push the moisture 10 layers deep into the skin and lock in moisture. Because of this, it can calm and soothe the skin while leaving it fully refreshed, hydrated and glowing after application. It is also suitable for all skin types throughout all seasons.
FEEL IT SMELL IT
This AXIS-Y Aqua Boosting Essence Toner has a consistency that is slightly thicker than water. Personally, I'm surprised by how fast it can be fully absorbed by the skin. Around 10 minutes after I have applied 3 layers of the toner, my skin resumes being completely smooth and not sticky at all. It is as if I have not applied any product to it. It also doesn't have any strong scent to it when applied to the face.
Applying the toner.
HOW TO USE
After cleansing, pour the toner on a cotton pad and gently wipe it across the face and the neck. Using the cotton pad, gently pat the skin to help it absorb the excess product on the cotton pad. After that just follow up with the remaining steps of your skincare routine. For myself, I prefer using my palms to apply the toner. Normally what I do is I would pour it onto my palm, warm it a little using the heat of my palm and gently pat it into my skin.
MY VERDICT
It works wonders in keeping the skin moisturised and can help minimise the appearance of the pores. The way that it dries down to almost nothing makes it the perfect toner when the weather is hot and humid as you will not feel that there is an uncomfortable layer of stickiness on your skin even if you apply a few layers of it. I find myself reaching for it more especially when I need to head out with a mask on.
BREATHABLE SKIN
I think we all know how uncomfortable it can feel when you wear a mask after you have just applied skincare products. It also sometimes leads to pimples and acne which is really frustrating. Hence finding products that can be absorbed by the skin quickly is like a huge mission to me now. Honestly, with what it is offering, this AXIS-Y Aqua Boosting Essence Toner is a bang for your buck. Give it a try!
