Klairs Fundamental Eye Awakening Gel review

MCO EXTENDED AGAIN
I am supposed to be free today. Able to roam the streets and go wherever I want. But our Prime Minister has extended the Movement Control Order to 28 April and I have to continue to be a good citizen and stay home. Coronavirus, why can't you come two years later when I have my own place with my baby. This has been the longest time ever we never meet up ever since we know each other (i am not clingy okay haha). But I do realise one thing, long distance relationship is always workable when the person is right. 🌝 Now, back to the review?

YAS, THE GOOD ONES
Glycerin can help keep the skin hydrated and keep the overactive oil glands under control.

Butylene Glycol is a powerful moisturiser. Hence this could potentially be a life saver for those of you with extremely dry skin around the eyes!

Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil makes this super moisturising on the skin, which means it should be great on people with dry skin around the eyes.

Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil is an amazing anti-inflammatory ingredient. It can help reduce redness caused by drying and alleviate the uncomfortable feeling brought upon by eczema and rosacea by keeping our skin calm and comfortable. Its ability to do so is contributed by the Vitamin E and B-complex vitamins that it contains. These vitamins are able to aid in skin repair and damage control, hence great for people with dry and chapping skin.

You can find the directions and ingredient list in both English and Korean on the box package.

YAS, THE GOOD ONES (contd.)
Tocopherol (Vitamin E) is a major lipid-soluble antioxidant in the skin. It protects the skin against peroxide and pro-oxidants and can prevent oxidation in cosmetics. If Vitamin E levels are insufficient, harmful foreign substances can easily invade as our skin's protective function will be weakened. This can cause our skin to age faster. Hence, by ensuring our skin gets the vitamin E it needs, we can slow down cell ageing by reducing lipid peroxidation. Vitamin E can also help soften our skin and soothe inflammation as well as protect our skin against sun damage. Now that I recall, my orthopaedic surgeon has actually prescribed me a vitamin E cream for the scars on my knee after my knee surgery.

The reason that some of us have dark circles is due to enlarged blood vessels around the eyes when the eyes are strained. This can be caused by staring at the TV or computer screen for too long. This is where Caffeine will be useful as it has the power to constrict blood vessels. Besides, it can also reduce puffiness and inflammation. Some people have also find it effective in tightening and brightening the skin, reducing wrinkles and visibly smoothing away body cellulite.

Artemisia Princeps is a type of Japanese mugwort (known as yomogi in Japanese). Mugwort is very popular for its antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. Its leaf extracts can soothe, heal and nourish the skin, reduce redness and alleviate psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and other irritations. Not just that, being loaded with antioxidants and vitamin E allows it to protect the skin barrier as well.

Directions are also available on the back of the bottle in both English and Korean.

YAS, THE GOOD ONES (contd.)
Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract is a rich source of epigallocatechin gallate, which is one of the most powerful antioxidants available. Moreover, Green Tea Extract is a good anti-inflammatory agent. It can help reduce skin inflammation (go away acnes!) and inhibit the action of collagenase (an enzyme that breaks down collagen).

Used by renowned physician Hua Tuo, Perilla is a herb with history dating back to the Han Dynasty. It is commonly used as a Chinese medicinal herb, is known to regulate qi ("气")and also demonstrates excellent anti-bacterial qualities. When used in skincare (like its Perilla Frutescens Extract in here), it can help reduce inflammation, improve blood circulation, calm damaged skin and reduce skin sensitivity. No wonder I like this Fundamental Eye Awakening Gel so much, it contains Perilla like my Perilla Modelling Mask from Dermabell! Now this is the second product I found out that has Perilla Frutescens!

Sodium PCA is the sodium salt of PCA, while PCA is a cyclic organic compound. It has the ability to prevent moisture loss and is great for those who have dry skin.

NAH, THE BAD ONES
This time I can really skip this one. Skincarisma has not highlighted anything bad at all from this ingredient list! This is not surprising at all for a Klairs product, hehe. Now, let's see how it does!

Loving the pump design!

INTO EYE CREAM AGAIN
I had honestly thought that my relationship with eye cream had officially ended before Klairs released this Fundamental Eye Duo. The eye duo, like its name suggests, is made up by this Fundamental Eye Awakening Gel and the Fundamental Nourishing Eye Butter. I love the Eye Awakening Gel so much. It is a gel moisturiser (rare!) which gives the skin a cool and hydrating sensation when applied onto the skin. It is especially refreshing and "awakening" when used in the morning!

INCOGNITO MODE
The best thing about this eye awakening gel is that it disappears once it has dried down, leaving the skin comfortable and totally ready for makeup. That said, it is not sticky or greasy at all! To me, that is frankly a rare feature of an eye product, which is normally cream based and sometimes I feel can be a little heavy on my eye area. This is super lightweight and very suitable for people who have oily skin type. Because of how lightweight it is, I love using this in the morning.

I am one-third through mine now after 2.5 months.

TEXTURE AND SMELL
The eye gel is translucent and has literally zero smell (my nose can't detect any anyway haha). This texture of this gel moisturiser is more towards the watery end but not watery enough that it will start dripping the moment you put it around your eyes. That being said, it is super easy to spread out on the skin. Hence you won't be pulling at your eye area when you are using the gel. Also, it gives the skin a beautiful glass skin kind of glow when you apply it on the eye socket-cheek bone area. I love it!

A look on the gel texture and how it is like after it is patted into the skin.

HOW TO USE
If you own a jade roller (or any other eye massaging tool), you can pair it with eye gel and use it to massage your eye area gently. Otherwise, you can use your ring fingers. FYI, ring fingers are the weakest fingers and it is best for apply eye products because this prevents us from accidentally exerting too much force on the delicate eye area during application. After toning the skin, take a pump or half a pump (if you want it to be even lighter) on your ring fingers then gently pat it into the skin around the eye socket.

p.s. You can also apply the eye gel on any dull or pigmented area of your skin.

Patting gently with my ring finger. Please ignore that little pimple patch on my eyebrow haha.

WHY JUST EYE SOCKET
Don't go too near to the eyes when applying eye products because all these skincare products tend to move a little when they are melting into/being absorbed by the skin. Applying it on the eye socket can still allow your eye area to benefit from the product while avoiding from accidentally getting the product into your eyes. I didn't know this when I was first introduced to eye products and have always wondered why my eyes would get irritated whenever I apply them. Well, now I know~

The fine lines under my eyes are caused by dryness. This gel solves my problems!

EYE LOVE IT
This Fundamental Eye Awakening Gel is no joke. I can use it in Malaysia's hot weather without feeling uncomfortable and most importantly, it doesn't cause my makeup to become cakey at all. My dark circle is so bad there is no way I will walk out that door without any concealer. But sometimes my skin can get very dry and the concealer would flake halfway through the day. Thanks to this eye gel, my concealer can stay longer and better, without leaving me looking like an old panda at the end of the day haha.

MY  SAY
Well, you already know what my say is. I highly recommend this and will definitely purchase another bottle myself once it runs out. I don't see many gel type moisturiser out there so this is definitely a rare gem that I am going to hold on to! Of course, it is a little on the pricey end for its size but hey, a little goes a long way! Give it a try if you have the budget! You will not regret it.
