|REVIEW| DrJmeeLab W 2 Step Facial Mask: It Works!

WORKED OVERNIGHT
Well, hello! I'm back from my two-week hiatus! It's been a tough two weeks because I've been day and night for a job that I'm involved in right now. I've even once worked from 10am to 7am the next day! Luckily I have a bunch of great colleagues working alongside me and they give me the motivation to stay strong. Finally understand the true importance of having the right environment and the right people at work! HAHA!

DrJmeeLab W 2 Step Facial Mask - RM159.56 (10 pieces)

TWO IN ONE
My skin condition currently screams for a mask. I need something that can whiten and help reduce the appearance of wrinkle / fine lines that got emphasised so much due to sleep deprivation. This mask from Dr. Jmeelab sounds like a fit! It has two steps. The first step consists of two small bio-cellulose patches, where you can put under your eyes / smile lines while the second step is a full-size black sheet mask.

The ingredient lists for both of the masks.

YAS, THE GOOD ONES
Niacinamide is a vitamin B3 derivatives best known for its skin brightening properties. It can reduce pigmentation as it prevents melanin from migrating to the epidermis. I've seen it featured in many of Klairs products. With this, this product is able to help bring out the glow and give the dull skin a good makeover.  Not just that, it is also good as an anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing ingredient (read this article http://dermatologytimes.modernmedicine.com/dermatology-times/news/anti-aging-effects-niacin-amide if you want to know more)! What's best about it is that it helps stabilise vitamin C and shows enhanced effects when used with vitamin C.

Both Ceramide and Adenosine are great anti-wrinkle ingredients, especially Adenosine. It is capable of boosting the levels of proteins such as Collagen and Elastin, thereby being able to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and promote wound healing. Oh boy, I need this for my undereye! According to Wishtrend, adenosine can also effectively improves acne caused by oily skin!

Then, we have Allantoin. An ingredient that aims to improve dry and rough skin as it provides our skin with intensive moisture. Being a skin conditioner, it is also known for its ability to soothe irritated skin and protect our skin from external irritants and dirt.

Tearing open Step 1.

YAS, THE GOOD ONES (contd.)
Ceramide, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Hyaluronic Acid and Sodium Hyaluronate are all powerful moisturisers. Hence this could potentially be a life saver for those of you with extremely dry skin!

Centella Asiatica Extract which are known for its skin-calming properties. Mainly found in shady and damp areas in many different parts of the world, Centella (a.k.a. tiger grass because wounded tigers were often seen rolling in it to heal their wounds) is a small plant that grows up to around six inches in height. Also called the “miracle elixirs of life”, researchers have found that Centella Asiatica Extract facilitates the healing of cuts and burns as it can promote collagen production and inhibit inflammation which results in scarring.

Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract is commonly used in skincare products to help relieve inflammatory skin conditions and calm sensitive skin. It has the ability to provide antioxidant protection to our skin and it's also good for dry skin as it can soothe, moisturize and inhibit the growth of bacteria (die acne bacteria! Die!).

These are the smaller patches meant either for under-eye area or the smile lines.

YAS, THE GOOD ONES (contd.)
Dipotassium Glycyrrhizinate is a dipotassium salt of Glycyrrhizic Acid. It is normally used as a flavouring agent and a skin conditioning agent as it as anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Licorice Root Extract is good for fighting acne, skin brightening and calming the skin. It can also diminish the appearance of under-eye dark circles, discolouration and even age spots as well as acting as a powerful antioxidant to protect the skin from environmental stressors and balance oil.

Glycolic Acid is an anti-ageing ingredient together with Citric Acid. These are all a kind of AHA so they can also act as a pH buffer i.e. to help adjust our skin's acidity. Not just that, they also promote skin peeling (exfoliation) and re-growth which is why they are frequently used in anti-aging products.

See the protective layers?

YAS, THE GOOD ONES (contd.)
Willow Bark Extract contains salicylic acid, a type of BHA which is a natural exfoliant (remember my BHA Power Liquid Review? I mentioned before that it contains this Willow Bark Extract too!) and is used in many acne treatments as it can help skin shed dead cells and clear pores. Not just that, it can also stimulate new cell formation and help reduce the appearance of marks (goodbye acne marks!).

Acne-Fighting: Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract
Brightening: Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Niacinamide
Anti-Aging: Niacinamide, Ceramide 3, Adenosine, Glycolic Acid, Citric Acid, Lactic Acid
Promotes Wound Healing: Centella Asiatica Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid

I'm using the Step 1 patches for my under-eye areas. Notice a little difference between the two patches? That's because I've yet to remove the transparent layer from the patch I put on my left eye.

NAH, THE BAD ONES
The acids and fragrance could potentially irritate skin so do take note when using the mask. If you experience any itchiness or redness when using the mask, straight away remove it and immediately wash your face with water. Don't take any risk when it comes to your skin!

Opening up step 2!

HOW TO USE
Almost everything on the mask is in Korean so I had to do some google translate. Always apply toner first before putting on a mask to prepare the skin. Starting with step 1, you can choose to either put the bio-cellulose patches on your under-eye areas or your smile lines. Right after that, put step 2 on top of the patches. Leave them on for 10-20 minutes (recommended time) before removing the masks. Gently pat in the remaining essence to aid absorption.

It's a cooling black sheet mask. Adjusting the position of the mask on my face.

HOW IT FELT
The eye / smile line patches are white in colour and are flanked by two protective layers. Remove the white layer before putting on and while they are on your skin, remove the remaining layer, leaving only the bio-cellulose patch on your skin. The black mask didn't feel like normal cotton sheet mask. It felt much more cooling on my skin and has good adhesion power. I was sitting straight during the whole 10 minutes and it didn't budge an inch.

See how much serum there is on the mask?? 😱 I put the black mask on top of the eye patches.

DID I DETECT ANYTHING?
No. I couldn't smell anything despite Dr.JmeeLab claiming that it has fragrance in the masks. The smell was really too faint that I couldn't detect anything. It felt extremely comfortable on my skin and did not seem to irritate my most sensitive philtrum area. While the mask was on, I could tell that it's going to be super moisturising because of the amount of moisturising serum (just look at the ingredient list haha) that it comes with.

After 15 minutes, I decided to take off the mask.

SO HOW DID IT DO?
After the mask has dried down, it didn't feel tacky on the skin. I went on to put on my serums and sunblock and the leftover serum from the mask was just light enough that my skin felt comfortable the whole day. Honestly, the price (you can get a discount if you buy using my link!) is definitely a little up there. But you get two for paying the price of one, that's kind of worth it! Also, given the quality and the results, I'd say, give it a try before you say no!

A before-after for you. The appearance of my pores is significantly diminished and I definitely saw a huge difference in my skin tone (pay attention to my under-eye area)!
