The Saem Cleansing Water

PSST... EXCLUSIVE DEAL AT THE END!

GOING BACKWARD
A beauty review, finally, it's back! This time I'm going to talk about a few products in a row because I just received the Althea Trouble Breaker box which consists of SIX full size products! I will post a review on each product if I think it'll be too long to review directly in the unboxing review (which is coming on Saturday!). I know it is weird for me to post the reviews before the unboxing review, but I feel this will be the least confusing way for me to introduce the box to you. You'll find out why, so stay tuned!

AN ACNE BOX
No this is not to cause you more acnes! It does just the opposite. The Trouble Breaker Box is specially curated by the fairies in Althea to fight acnes. Look at the name, it tells you all! For all the products I introduce in the next week, you will see a lot of "tea tree"s here and there. Tea tree, or tea tree oil to be more precise, is famous for its ability to combat bacterias and size down pimples. Or so I've heard, because I haven't really tried one myself!

The Saem Tea Garden Tea Tree Cleansing Water [Sebum Care] (RM21 for 300ML)

FROG UNDER THE WELL & TEA TREE
It's my first time seeing a cleansing water with tea tree. What's more special is that they specified on the bottle that the tea tree comes from Australia. So it should be more organic and natural then? Also, look at the price! I must say this is super cheap because every ML only costs RM0.07! I've been wanting to test The Saem's products so many times now finally I have the chance to try it.

INGREDIENT LIST
There is only Korean ingredient list on the bottle and so I copied the English version from Skincarisma (you can take a look at the ingredient explanation by clicking on that link, it's not a click bait LOL). On first look, my guts told me the cleansing water won't work well on its own. There is no oil in the water (duh) so it should not work very well with waterproof products. But we shouldn't judge a book by its cover (or a cleanser by its water in this case) so let's put it to test!

Water, Propanediol, PEG-6 Caprylic / Capric GlyceridePEG-7 Glyceryl CocoateMelaleuca Alternifolia (tea tree) leaf oil (100ppm), Gnaphalium Leontopodium Flower (Edelweiss Flower) Extract, Malva Sylvestris Flower Extract, Achillea Millefolium Extract, Alchemilla Vulgaris Extract, Origanum Majorana Leaf Extract, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol

Note: Bolded are the star ingredients in the product whereas underlined are those flagged as 3 & above under 'Safety index'. Safety index ranges from 1-9 and the lower the number means the less hazardous.

HAND'S IN FOR THE TEST!

Before I put on the makeup.

Two facts about me: I am right handed and I cannot draw.

I have all the makeup that I usually put on on my hand: waterproof Maybelline Master Precise Skinny Gel Pencil Liner (the doodle), waterproof Maybelline The Falsies Mascara (that random spot on the right LOL), the whole Tanya Burr Cosmetics enchanted dream eye palette (nicely blended! Or not so, HAHA) and the Laneige BB Cushion No.23 Sand Beige as base (can you see the glossier brighter skin? 🙌🏼).

WORKING IT
It's now the moment of truth. I tried my best to apply similar pressure to my hand as how I would to my face and to minimise my uncontrollable urge to just vigorously rub away the makeup (I still did, at the very end, when the waterproof mascara won't rub off! Ugh!). Instructions say to press on makeup area for 5-10 seconds and gently blot off followed by lightly washing it off. At least that's what I understood (and I recommend this, just continue reading and I'll tell you why). If you read the back of the bottle in the picture above, you'll see they say:

No need to wash off with water, but lightly wash off as a finishing touch.
Confusing isn't it?

So here's the aftermath. Looks quite promising eh? It couldn't remove my waterproof liner and mascara completely still, but I didn't expect it to since it's just a cleansing water. But it is amazing because those are what my Bioderma Sensibio H2O couldn't even slightly remove when they were on my eyes! I always need a makeup remover for those.

the saem malaysia review
Look at all the makeup removed!

To double check how clean it is, I went over my hand again with my Bioderma. Then the feeling of disappointment kicked in. How come there is still some brown stuff (my Laneige BB cushion) coming out? That's like the most basic thing this babe should remove!

Look at that brownish stain on the new piece of cotton (I hope you can see it in the picture),  sigh.

Honestly, I'm so lost with this one. I want to like it because it is only RM21 and it managed to remove some of my waterproof liner and mascara. But I just couldn't! It couldn't remove my base makeup which I was 100% expecting it to since that is, like, the easiest one to remove! 😞 Also it smells heavily of tea tree so if you're not a fan of the smell you might not like this one.

ONTO MY FACE IT GOES
Okay, so this one is the real deal. After doing the hand test, it's time it goes onto my face. I want it to clean well, feel smooth, refreshing, not drying and most importantly, not sticky after it dries down. Ready? Get set, go!

p.s. Gross picture coming in, close your eyes and scroll quickly!

how to use the saem cleansing water
This was in the morning. I had no makeup on or anything. I didn't even do my night routine at all the night before. #sickandlazy LOL

I am impressed with how much dirt it took off. So it cleans reasonably well (as proven in hand test)! The cotton pad I used became all yellow and disgusting (my face that dirty eh?) and it is just super satisfying to look at. Smooth? Check! Refreshing and not drying? Check! Not sticky? NO! AlthoughI've not tried a cleansing waters before (only micellar waters, but I don't group them together since they are totally different things), but I know being sticky is not one of their characteristics.

My face feels super sticky afterwards and I'm not happy. Cleansing water is supposed to prep my face for the application of toner later. If it feels sticky and uncomfortable, especially under Malaysia's hot weather, layering products on it later will be total disaster! Here's why I'm going to recommend you wash it off with water. Just pat some water on it, dry your face then only move on to toner. A little troublesome, isn't it? Anything for skincare!

ONLY IF YOU DOUBLE CLEANSE
If you wear makeup, I'm not recommending this if you're after the most simplistic skincare routine i.e. single-step cleansing routine, although you really shouldn't because it is not sufficient to help you clean up all the gunks. Put in as much effort as you do your makeup to clean up your face! Do it for the skin you love. (Check out my simple guide on the 10-step routine for beginners)

For me, I'm not stashing mine away. I'm going to incorporate this into my morning routine as a stand alone. For my night routine, hmm, maybe on some days (the no-makeup days) after washing my face with the AHA Cleansing Research Wash Cleansing. That way I can save up on my Bioderma! I'm a double cleanse girl yo! (I used to be a cleanser-moisturer girl only, can you see the evolution? 😂) So if you normally double cleanse, or just want to save up on your more expensive micellar water, this one can be a keeper!
