ALMOST BROKE MY CAMERA
The horse oil didn't, my tripod did. I always use tripod to take my pictures because I love using low ISO which in turn needs low shutter speed. This morning when I was having a photoshoot session for my 'model', I carefully positioned my camera and proceeded to screwing it in place. For a moment everything looked fine. As I went on to position the horse oil cream (Ha! The 'model') for photography, I heard a loud thud. My camera had fallen 90 degree downwards, with its base barely attached to the top of the tripod.

SCREWED UP
I've never moved faster in my life to make sure my camera stayed where it was. What have I done to you my little tripod, do you seriously hate me that much for screwing you up so many times (pun intended)? Now the tripod is completely useless. Without the ability to screw my camera in place, I'm unable to use low ISO for my photos (hands too shaky for low shutter speed!) and I can't get any natural light to help me. Hence the photos will look a bit grainier than usual, so please bear with me while I get a new tripod!

Update: Got a new tripod! So I retook some of the pictures here :D

HORSE FATS? EWW!
Not long ago, horse oil was probably the last thing I would add into my skincare routine. I've tried the Guerisson 9 Complex Cream before and I thought it was waaay too oily for my combination skin. At the same time, I feel disgusted at the thought of putting horse oil on my skin. I simply could not bear the thought of horses being slaughtered for their fats. Turns out, I was totally wrong about how horse oil is actually obtained!

FARMED FOR MEAT
In countries like Germany and Japan, horses are actually bred for their meat. Their fats are therefore byproducts after the horse meat has been served as food. So they are not killing horses just to obtain their fats! The oil is then extracted from the fats and get incorporated into cosmetics. But then again Claire's Korea (the first Korean company to make horse oil cosmetics) does not clarify this on their website. I found this from other brands which sell horse oil too but I'm assuming (fingers crossed!) they are doing the same.

LIGHTER HORSE OIL
With that at the back of my mind, I feel more comfortable using horse oil. If they are going to throw the horse fats away anyway, it is better they get made into something beneficial than to be wasted. Now it can help us beauty addicts regenerate skin growth, calm inflammation and is non-toxic. Claire's Korea even claims it helps improve blood circulation (not really sure how though)! So I gave in to the hype when they release a lighter horse oil than the original 9 Complex Cream, the Guerisson 9 Complex Cream Light. Guerisson is a brand under Claire's Korea and the cream is one of its many horse oil products. From what I understand, the horse oil is obtained from Germany and then made into cream in Korea.

SHINING BRIGHT LIKE A DIAMOND?
Okay, not at all. When I first put on the cream, I was worried it wouldn't absorb and would leave my face looking like an oil slick. Fortunately it turned out better than I thought. Smelling like shea butter, putting it on my skin was a breeze due to its thinner consistency. When a thin layer was spread out on my skin, I could immediately see a thin film of shine which slowly disappeared as the cream got absorbed by my hungry skin.

BARE SKIN IS THE TRICK
When I felt my skin again after 30 seconds, the creamy feeling had totally disappeared. It felt like I hadn't put anything on it and I immediately fell in love with it! But the catch is, I must do it on bare skin and in an air-conditioned room, Malaysia is just too warm for a proper absorption of this horse oil! And the main point is, I have to do it without my COSRX toner, AHA & BHA Power Liquids or Ginseng Serum, which is not my style! So how?

Just after spreading it out.

GOOD FOR WHEN I'M LAZY, I MEAN BUSY!
Luckily I'm soon starting my new job as an auditor (or unluckily? LOL). This mayu cream can take over my whole night skincare routine and help me save so much time! And yes, I'm only going to use it as a night cream. It works amazing at keeping my skin moisturised while I have my beauty sleep in an air-conditioned room. When I wake up the next morning, I can still wash off some of the unabsorbed cream (I put too much? LOL) but my face feels super supple and smooth. Which I like!

However if I were to layer the COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream on this in the morning, it's guaranteed I'll have a makeup meltdown that day! It's still too thick for my combination skin to carry it during the day, sigh. Would really love to slap this on in the morning too so that I can wake up later! #isthisyoutoo

I TYPED THESE
I couldn't find a full ingredient list for this fairly new product online, so I've typed them in one by one and did a Skincarisma analysis. Be prepared for a super long list, in fact, it is by far the longest ingredient list I've seen (and I need to type out this one, whyyyy?)!

p.s. The ingredient list on the box is insanely small my poor eyes almost died. TT

Ingredient list:
Water, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Horse Fat, Cyclopentasiloxane, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Niacinamid, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Cyclohexasiloxane, CetearylAlcohol, Beeswax, Dimethicone, Polyglyceryl-6 Distearate, Betaine, Elaeagnus Glabra Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Jojoba Esters, Titanium Dioxide, Glyceryl Caprylate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Fragrance, Isohexadecane, Propanediol, Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Polyglyceryl-3 Beewax, Polysorbate 80, Xanthan Gum, Adenosine, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Snail Secreton Filtrate, Sorbitan Oleate, Disodium EDTA, Hydrated Silica, Aluminium Hydroxidem 1,2-Hexanediol, Carbomer, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Phenoxyethanol, Octyldodecanol, Polysorbate 20, Caprylyl Glycol, Ligularia Fishceria Leave Extract, Bixa Orellana Seed Oil, Nonoxynol-12, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract, Melissa Officinalis Leaf Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Monarda Didyma Leaf Extract, Rose Centifolia Flower Extract, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Mentha Rothundifolia Leaf Extract, Chamomilia Recutita (Matricaria) Leaf Extract, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Extract, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Ceramide NP, Astaxanthin, Tocopherol, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7.
Note: Bolded ingredients are those known for doing great on most skins whereas underlined ones (wanted to do Italic then I realised everything was Italicised) are those flagged as "3" and above under safety. Higher number means higher possibility of it being an irritant.

It's a bit grainy as I was using a very high ISO to compensate for the lack of natural sunlight and tripod.

HOW TO SPOT A FAKE GUERISSON
Using an app
Step 1: Download “HiddenTag C.O.P.” from App Store or Google Play.

Step 2: Open the app and scan the hologram mark on the orange package (left picture below) using the Product Authenticity Verification function (right picture above).

guerisson 9 complex light fake vs real      guerisson 9 complex light fake vs real

Step 3: If your product is authentic, this picture with Lee Kwang Soo (any Running Man fans here? 😍) will show up with a mark that says “The Original”.

Manually checking
If you're nowhere near a wifi, then it's time to do some manual inspection.

guerisson 9 complex fake vs real

PACKAGE SIZE
The easiest step is to look at the size. Both fake and real Guerisson horse oil will show you it contains 45g of product, so the ounces play an important role in differentiating the fake from the real. The real one will show you the correct conversion which is 1.59oz while the fake one will usually state a wrong conversion. I looked up on Google and the conversion from 45g to ounces is 1.58733oz.

LOGO ON PLASTIC FILM
If you manage to open up the product for a look, an authentic Guerisson will have a logo-printed plastic film (like picture above) to prevent spill. The fake ones are usually not sealed or will have clear plastic films. The seal does not require any tearing off or pulling. All you have to do is just carefully slip it up from the plastic ring circling the tub opening and it's ready for use.

LOOK AT THE CREAM
The real one has a yellow tinge to it and a heavy shea butter smell which can be detected upon opening the cap. The fake one will usually look more watery and can be drying when applied on the skin. About the cap, it is a screwing gold colour cap made of metal. You will find its logo embossed on it which says: Guerisson 9•Complex Horse Oil From Germany. The tub itself is made of glass and feels very sturdy in hand.

The interior of the box should be printed with "JDYCLAIRES" followed by Klaud9Klärs (German) in various languages which include Japanese, German, Chinese, Russian and others I cannot pinpoint.

Last but not least, it comes with a spatula!

RECOMMEND OR NOT
Honestly, I won't recommend this despite it being a lighter version if you have combination (me!) to oily skin. I still feel it is a bit too rich and is difficult to maintain if you plan to wear makeup on it. Or, use it only as a night cream if you really want to try it out! But if your skin is prone to dryness or you have chapped lips (me again!) that require extra moisture, consider picking this up! It could be a total life saviour for you! Although do make sure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients in the long list above. Like I always say, DO PATCH TEST PLEASE, okay?

    1. Hi! I got this May 2017. I went and googled some reviews from other bloggers who bought this last year. Their boxes have the similar holograms and the printing of words on the inside. I suggest you pop an email to Hermo, attach a picture of your box and specifically ask them about the missing hologram.

  6. Hi ! is very useful information. However, it seems that GUERISSON had change their packaging. The hologram is no longer in use. They are now using QR code instead, is much more convenient to check the product.
