I GOT MY FIRST ACNE CREAM AT 22 YEARS OLD
I'm normally discouraged from getting an acne cream because I don't believe in them. I don't believe there is anything that can magically size down inflammation and kill rampant bacteria overnight. I'm all about, "if our own complex immune system (yo WBC!) can't do it, nothing can." So I tend to dismiss all acne product advertisements and laugh at those videos about acne products.
Not that I don't need them because I have acnes too, which especially love to frequent the tip of my nose! I've even been named red nose reindeer in my high school life. But still, I just wanted to let them run their course while I ran around using my hair to cover up my face when I saw some cute boys.
When COSRX first stepped into the game, I stopped running.
Instead, I decided to let go my pride and give the Centella Blemish Cream a try.

WAIT, NOT AN ACNE CREAM?
So many people are raving it as their holy grail ACNE CREAM. However, COSRX seems to only advocate its ability to lighten post-blemish marks and treat sensitive stressed-out skin. They are also high on marketing its ingredients: the Centella Asiatica Leaf Water and Centella Asiatica Extract which are known for their skin-calming properties. The Tea Tree Leaf Oil, which is famous for its pimple seizing ability, is so low on the ingredient list (scroll down ↓ for the list) I'm not sure it plays an important role.
Not just that! Those e-commerce websites that I frequent state that this Centella Blemish Cream normalises sebum secretion and hydrates the skin. Yes, HYDRATE. That is one big difference from all the acne creams in the market. I became a bit lost on how I should view this product after going through all my research. So I'm just going to put together my own review and decide where it stands!

COSRX Centella Blemish Cream (RM69 for 30ML)
Centella Asiatica Leaf Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Zinc Oxide, Dimethicone, Betaine, 1,2-Hexanediol, Viola Yedoensis Extract, Elaeis Guineensis(Palm) oil, Elaeis Guineensis(Palm) Kernel Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Centella Asiatica Extract, Zinc PCA, Xanthan Gum, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract
DIFFICULT TO ABSORB AND LEAVES WHITE RESIDUE
The very first thing I must say, is this Centella Blemish Cream is very hard to pat in. I could stand there patting for 20 seconds and there would still be some cream residue around the pimple. Not to mention that it is really uncomfortable to pat for so long and I have like many more on my face to take care of! If you happen to have put on some gel type moisturiser or any gel type essence, good luck. You will end up with all the cream on your finger instead of in your pores. This is what really disappoints me. I wasn't expecting something this hard to use and time consuming.
What I learnt over the period from using the Centella Blemish Cream is to never be greedy. Using the spatula given, dig up only a tiny amount which you think is enough to feed an ant, and dab it on with your finger. This cannot guarantee 100% absorption, but is good enough to save you from matching your polka dot T-shirt.

NOTHING WORKS OVERNIGHT
To be fair, overnight is a short time. Unless you happen to know some black magic, pimples don't go away overnight. Before I made my purchase, I've already read reviews about this Centella Blemish Cream and how it is not an overnight magic potion. So my hopes were not high in this department and I'm not surprised when it took days to prove itself.
It works great when I put it on red bumps (note: not pimples) that are caused by daily extended use of makeup and suncream. In fact, it works like a like a fairy. But its bibidi-babidi-bu spell has a limited use. It does not show me any results on my pimples, be it a work in progress or a fully formed. Honestly? I feel like it sometimes even accelerated the development and helped the pimple mature. In a way this is good but I'm not sure I'm a fan of it!
I've also stuck with it for five months now but I have not seen major improvement on my acne scars. What was dark stays dark. Nevertheless, I plan to empty it but I will not repurchase. You can already foresee that I'm not going to recommend this product from my attitude!

COSRX STAYS TRUE TO ITS CLAIMS, I GUESS?
COSRX is being 100% honest when it did not claim to heal pimples with its Centella Blemish Cream. If you have a huge zit peeping through, this cream is NOT your life saviour before a date night. But it definitely is strong in calming redness and irritation, so you can trust it to soothing your skin.
For acne scar improvement, I'm thinking it probably needs a longer time. My acne scars have been there for such a long time so I'm not that naive to think that five-month use of this Centella Blemish Cream will magically erase everything. Which is why I plan on using it until the end of its life to see if it will eventually works out. It expires in 2019 so that's not a problem, kudos to Hermo! I will keep you guys updated on this.

LASTLY, DO NOT USE IT FOR YOUR WHOLE FACE
On a side note, I don't recommend using this as a moisturiser for your whole face. I've never done that myself and I don't think you should. It'd be a waste to use a RM2.30/ml product on parts of your face which do not need it! Use it only on your zits or areas that need some calming potion, then you can make sure "a little goes a long way" applies to this. Also, if you're thinking this product does not work at all after trying it out a few times, COSRX does recommend the combination of this with its Centella Blemish Ampoule (which costs RM89 for 20ML) for better results.

ReplyDeletei feel you .ive purchase this centella blemish cream.it doesnt go with what ive expected because my acne and acne scars remain the same.Sometimes i feel like it is a waste
ReplyDeleteYour blog post is really informative. I really love your style and the wonderful images! Your writing skills are so good. I truly appreciate this article post. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteToo bad that the product is not effective for your skin. I was skeptical at first but after using it, I can see the hype of this product. It helps smoothing and reducing my acnes especially those cystic bumps. Of course it wont get rid of acnes overnight but definitely my cystic acnes reduce their sizes after I applied it overnight. To help those bumps completely gone it takes be 2 or 3 days I believe. And I have struggled with acnes and cystic acnes for years, so I would say this product works wonderful without drying up the skin or causing skin irritation like benzoyl peroxide.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your great information. Me also suffering from acne and very sensitive skin. It easily get red and I really don't like it. Can u suggest me what products would work for my blemish skin
ReplyDeleteHello there! I'm terribly sorry for the late reply! Hmm, I think this Midnight Blue Calming Cream might help with the redness (I've not tried it myself before but I've read a lot of reviews that it really works) and I personally love Teca 1% Barrier Cream because it works like a magic to help me clear up my skin when my skin is not behaving.
