YAS, THE GOOD ONES
Glycolic Acid is an anti-ageing ingredient together with Lactic Acid, Tartaric Acid and Citric Acid. These are all a kind of AHA so they can also act as a pH buffer i.e. to help adjust our skin's acidity. Not just that, they also promote skin peeling (exfoliation) and re-growth which is why they are frequently used in anti-aging products.

We all know Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, i.e. Aloe Vera is very famous for its hydrating properties. Containing Auxin and Gibberellins, Aloe Vera is a pro in promoting wound healing (it treats minor burn like a queen). It also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help bring down skin inflammation, which is why it has been frequently featured in acne products.

Salicylic Acid is a type of BHA which is a natural exfoliant and is used in many acne treatments as it can help skin shed dead cells and clear pores. Not just that, it can also stimulate new cell formation and help reduce the appearance of marks (goodbye acne marks!).

However, I do not encourage anyone to use Salicylic Acid on a daily basis. Some of you may be sensitive to it, and if you use it regularly, you may end up with skin that is dry, red, and peeling. But Salicylic Acid is the most used ingredient for acne. It can reduce the inflammation and help your skin recover faster. Just take note that you should quickly use a moisturiser on top of it and avoid using it with other skin-drying product(s) to prevent further drying out your skin!

Panthenol is a powerful moisturiser and is also known for its ability to promote wound healing, as well as alleviate other irritations like eczema.

Glycerin can help keep the skin hydrated and keep the overactive oil glands under control.

The light blue print on both the box and bottle helps me make sure that the products are authentic.

NAH, THE BAD ONES
For those of you with sensitive skin, you might want to think twice before getting this as it contains Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Lactic Acid, Tartaric Acid and Citric Acid. All these can potentially irritate the skin further.

SkinCarisma has highlighted that Polysorbate 20 is a potential fungal acne trigger as well.

STAY HOME AND MASK
The good thing about staying home is that I have plenty of me-time. I can finally adhere to my schedule where I mask once a week, especially because a lot of my masks are nearing their expiry dates! This AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution by The Ordinary is a 10-minute wash-off mask. It is very watery in texture and has a pungent smell. But I wouldn't say the smell is unbearable. Somehow it just felt like how acids should smell like and personally, I actually find it pretty okay.

Just a thin layer will do.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR FACE?!
Yeah, that's my boyfriend's and my mom's first reaction when I accidentally let them see me in the mask. I tend to hide in my room whenever I use this The Ordinary Peeling Solution because otherwise its red colour would cause whoever who sees it to mistake it as blood and I would have to explain that it's actually a mask and my skin is fine. But do be careful when using it because it can stain cloth and you will need detergent to wash it off as water alone will not be able to get the red stain off.

WHO SHOULD USE
This AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution is a very strong acid. If you are new to acids, please please do not try it. Start with acids with lower concentrations to see how resilient your skin is. You also should not use it if you have sensitive, peeling or compromised skin. I have once accidentally burnt my freshly-squeezed pimple and left an even deeper mark on my nose to heal. Moral of the story, don't play around with acids when you are not sure what kind of damage it can do!

HOW TO USE
Clean your face and wait for the skin to dry. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT use on wet skin, you will bawl your eyes out because it is going to burn like hell. Instead of using your fingers, I'd suggest to apply the mask using a flathead brush. Also, do not apply it near the eye area. Once done, leave it on for a maximum of 10 minutes. If you are new to this, start with maybe 5 minutes then slowly increase the time once your skin gets accustomed to the acids. Do not leave it on for more than 10 minutes even if your skin is very used to acids because it can potentially burn your skin.

It comes with a dropper. I'm almost finishing mine!

HOW TO USE (contd.)
When the time is up, rinse your face thoroughly with lukewarm water. I'd suggest using a sponge/cloth to help wash it off. A sponge/cloth removes the mask better than just bare hands. For me, I only use the mask once a week. I would also sometimes substitute it with a gentle scrub when I feel like it haha. Do not use it more than twice per week because it can over-exfoliate the skin. Also, given the nature of this product and what it can do, try to do a patch test before applying it to the whole face. Plus, I recommend to only use this at night and you must apply sunscreen in the next morning!

FINAL CALL
I used the mask on the night when my boyfriend stayed over at my place. The mask gave him a little heart attack (he thought something was wrong with my skin) that he actually asked me to try avoiding red colour mask LOL. On the same night right before we were going to sleep, he cupped my face to say goodnight. That was when he suddenly told me, "wow your skin is really smooth". And in my mind, I know that I found my the one.

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution, you are going to be my one and only exfoliator from today onwards.

p.s. I hope you guys got the joke! Haha!
