By Wishtrend Pure Vitamin C 21.5 Advanced Serum review

I had a good experience with the C20 Original Pure Vitamin C20 Serum (now known as TIAM My Signature C-Source) which I was using just earlier this year. Frankly, I didn't finish the bottle, also my first bottle. When I was at my last 5ml, the solution became really yellowish, i.e. super oxidised, because I didn't keep it in the fridge *regret*. I'm a lazy girl and the fridge is simply too 'far' from my room HAHA! So I threw it away before I actually finished it, hence the lack of a proper review here. So this one now is kind of a compensation! I will compare this new Vitamin C 21.5 Serum to my old C20 and let you know what I think about them!

By Wishtrend Pure Vitamin C 21.5 Advanced Serum (RM99 for 30ML)

Let's first look at the super minimalistic ingredient list.

Hippophae Rhamnoides Water (70%), Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) (21.5%/6450ppm), Sodium Lactate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Panthenol, Cassia Obtusifolia Seed Extract, Allantoin, Xanthan Gum, Ethyl Hexanediol
Bolded are the good/star ingredients in the product whereas underlined are those flagged as 3 & above under 'Safety index' in by EWG. Safety index ranges from 1-9 and the lower the number means the less hazardous. Those with asterisk (*) are more likely to cause acne than those without.

I really like how most By Wishtrend products have very simple ingredient lists that make our lives easy. The ingredient list has only 10 natural ingredients, making it a no-fuss, straight-to-the-point product. It is free from alcohol, paraben and sulphate and according to Wishtrend, it also has no artificial ingredients or irritants and has an improved absorption for intense hydration.

The Good Ones
All the bolded ingredients are very well known ingredients.
Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), is great in promoting wound healing. It can help fade scars and improve our skin texture as it also mildly exfoliates.

The Good Ones (Cont'd)
Sodium Hyaluronate and Panthenol (which I have talked about in this Belif post) are powerfully moisturising. If you are a dry skin person with acne scars issue, this could be perfect for you! Now I see where the intense hydration part comes from!
Last but not least, it is Allantoin again, which we have seen once in the By Wishtrend TECA 1% Barrier Cream review just last week. It can improve dry and rough skin as it provides our skin with intensive moisture. Not just that, being a skin conditioner, it can also soothe irritated skin and protect our skin from external irritants and dirt.

Fresh out of the fridge. See the water droplets?

The Bad Ones
This time I can really skip this one. Skincarisma has not highlighted anything bad at all from this ingredient list! This is not surprising at all (despite the tone in my last sentence haha) as so many people have raved about this one. Now, let's see how it does!

They claimed that this serum has a non-sticky formula. By saying non-sticky, my expectation was set quite high. Because I don't expect it to be sticky at all. But turns out, the stickiness is still there, although much less than the C20 serum. It is better if you refer to the table below, because it effectively compares the stickiness of each vitamin C product. I took this from Wishtrend's website and I love how they put them side by side to ease comparison!

After my last experience with my first bottle of Vitamin C serum, I highly highly recommend you to put yours in the fridge too once opened. It not only preserves the serum at its best state for much longer use, the chilled Vitamin C serum can help calm our skin down and it seems to work a little better when it's chilled (can also probably wake you up a little if you're going to stay up late for work/study HAHA). That way it won't have to be thrown out when you're only half way through the bottle.

It comes with a dropper. The serum is a clear liquid that looks just like water.

I actually love that it stings. It means the product is exfoliating my skin and it is working. Since I've previously used C20, I expect it to sting a little as this one is 1.5% higher in concentration. But when I was using it for the first time, it didn't. In fact, I felt nothing at all other than liquid running on my skin and the slight stickiness afterwards. Hmm, I supposed my skin is okay with the serum! However, after using it for over a week, I started keeping it in the fridge and it suddenly stings around my more problematic areas. I was a bit taken aback, considering that I've been using it for over a week. That's why I said it seems to work better when chilled! My skin looks okay still and the stinging sensation goes away in a few seconds. For me, I know my skin's limits. But if you're new to it, you HAVE TO read the next paragraph.

Two drops on the back of my hand and I can feel that it stings a little. The liquid is very runny.

If you're a Vitamin C serum newbie, take note of the following:
  • Start by using only once every two days, that shall give you the around 3 uses per week.
  • Do not mix this with any AHA or BHA products. You don't want to burn your skin.
  • Do not mix this with retinol or benzoyl peroxide. Both of these can reduce the effectiveness of Vitamin C and render it totally useless.
  • If it stings too badly, wash off immediately. The concentration may be too strong for your skin and you need to slowly introduce it by using fewer drops. If that doesn't work either, switch to a lower concentration (try Dear, Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop).
  • It's a MUST to wear sunblock during the day to prevent sun damage as this sensitise the skin towards the UV rays.
  • Enhance the effect of this Vitamin C (water-soluble) serum with with a Vitamin E (fat-soluble) product (suggestion: Dear, Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask, read my review).

After patting it in, my skin doesn't looks oily at all. There's no trace of application.

The 21.5 Advanced serum smells identical to C20. A strong orangey smell with a tinge of lemony smell. I personally am in love with the smell as I love orange a lot haha! If you're not a fan, I can assure you it fades in a few seconds after you've applied onto your skin. It is definitely a pleasant smell so don't be worried at all! Texture wise, it is the same as C20. A transparent runny liquid that feels just like water (that makes sense, since it is 70% 'some' fancy water). It runs down my face the moment I drop it on my forehead and cheeks. I have to be really careful each time so it doesn't run into my eyes and cause me serious eye discomfort (NOTE: YOU DON'T WANNA EXPERIENCE THIS).

Let's do a stickiness test!

I think most of you are in here just for this part HAHA! So, Imma let the pictures speak a thousand words again!

See how those circled parts have lightened a lot? It took only 9 days to fade that pimple which was  still so huge when I was taking photos for By Wishtrend's TECA 1% Barrier Cream!

I actually prefer this new bottle because of its higher concentration and it definitely seems like it's working well on my skin. I'm dying to get rid of my acne scars and this seems like a more viable option compared to laser. I would recommend it if you are struggling with post-acne marks, have exhausted most other options and are not ready to go for the very costly option. I have honestly never regretted a day after being introduced to the Vitamin C serum and will very likely continue to use one until the day all my acne marks have been completely erased. Join me?

Oh ya, be careful when you go to bed right after applying the serum. Make sure you let it dry off before you face-plant on your bed. Look what happened to my white bedsheets:

  1. Thank you for this awesome review! I'm browsing around for my first scar/hyperpigmentation fading serum! Your review sold me on this product, I'll be purchasing mine from YESSTYLE now 😂 It's just sitting in my cart and me being indecisive haha! Cheers!!!

    1. You're welcome haha! :D YAY! Glad to know that! If you have time, do come back and share with me your experience :D

  2. HEllo! Just wanna ask if the color of your wishtrend vit c is super clear like water? Because i got mine in slighly yellowish serum appearance. Im thinking if i got slightly oxidized serum or slight yellowish color is normal and still 100% potent? thanks you!😊

    1. Hello! When I first got it, yes it was super clear like water. It turned slightly yellowish after a while. Where did you get yours from? It's normal for it to oxidise a little after some time. Maybe you can check with the seller on the manufacturing date of the serum. :) Just a little tip: you can try to slow the oxidisation down a little by putting it in the fridge.

  3. Hello! just wanna check did you use this vitamin c both in the day and night, or just at night? As it will cause your skin to be sensitive to the sun. I live in SG and the sun really is hot... dont want to burn my skin

    1. Hello! I used it mostly only at night. I have used it in the morning before where I followed with a SPF50 PA+++ sunblock and try to avoid the sun as much as possible. :)
