The packaging is so cute! I love the bubble design and it's pink! 😍
UNBELIE-BUBBLE
I watched a lot of YouTube videos on the Elizavecca’s Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask and it was funny to see how it bubbled up on my favourite YouTubers' faces. I didn't buy into the bubble mask trend until I tried out the Rivecowe Bubble Mask Pack myself yesterday. At first I thought that since it's a sheet mask, it'd only have mild bubbling and man was I wrong! Never had I thought I'd experience something similar with a bubble mask pack so I was very surprised by this mask. Now the question is, is it the good or the bad kind of surprise?

Rivecowe Bubble Mask Pack (USD14.43 for ten packs)
FIRST, WHAT IS THIS MASK?
Thanks to Jolse, I get to try out the mask. According to their website, this is a bubble mask pack that has the ability to eliminate body waste and keep our skin moisturised at the same time. Also known as oxygen mask (explained below), the mask works by bubbling up and is activated when it's smooth onto your skin, or when you rub it like I did in the video below (please ignore that squeal near the end, I accidentally dripped A LOT OF water on the floor HAHA). So this is kind of like a motion-activated mask.
Go bubbles go!
WHY DOES IT BUBBLE UP?
WHY DOES IT BUBBLE UP?
The mask contains perfluorobutyl (check ingredient list below), which is an oxygen carrier which can dissolve oxygen really well. With this as an ingredient in the mask serum, the mask packaging is sealed under pressure and sold off to us customers. When we shake the mask package, pull out the mask and start smoothing it out on our face, the oxygen trapped in the perfluorobutyl is released similar to bubbles escaping from a carbonated drink. However, instead of popping, the bubbles foam as the mask usually also contains some foaming ingredients like those found in cleansers.
INGREDIENT LIST
Water, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Dipropylene Glycol, Disiloxane, Methyl Perfluorobutyl Ether, Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Betaine, Xanthan Gum, Allantoin, Methyl Undecenoyl Leucinate, Butylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Oil, Rosa Centifolia Flower Oil, Camiellia Japonica Seed Oil, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, *Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, *Isopropyl Myristate, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance
Note: Bolded are the star ingredients in the product whereas underlined are those flagged as 3 & above under 'Safety index'. Safety index ranges from 1-9 and the lower the number means the less hazardous. Those with asterisks (*) are more likely to cause acne than those without.
My mum suggested photographing the masks like this and I thought it is really creative!
WHAT DOES THE BUBBLING DO?
I've come across different articles that have varying opinions on the benefits of bubble masks. One popular opinion is that such masks deliver extra oxygen to our skin, enabling the production of collagen. We all know collagen is the basic building block of our skin and it can hold onto water, giving our skin a younger, plumper and less wrinkled look. The Klog also mentioned that oxygen can kill acne-causing bacteria, calm breakouts and stop future ones in their tracks as the mask can work its way into our pores, push out dirt and thereby unclogging our pores.
The back of the mask with instructions.
LET'S PLAY!
We already know how it works, now let's try it. The instructions at the back of the mask are only in Korean, so I translated it for you below:
First, make sure your face is dry, be careful to avoid putting the mask too close to the eyes, nose and mouth (added by me: cut the mask if you have to). Then, put the mask on for 3-5 minutes after the bubbles have formed. Lastly, remove the mask and massage the residual foam on the skin gently before rinsing thoroughly with lukewarm water.
My skin before the mask: dry and with mild redness at the chin area (pimples whyyyy and please ignore my messy hair, I have no idea why it was so messy 😅)
Are you ready? Let's open up.
I accidentally tore too hard haha. The mask has already bubbled up the moment I opened it.

It has only been on my face for less than one minute, look at the foam! The mask bubbled up very quickly.
A close up of the mask.
It's been around two minutes, let's see how thick the bubbles have become.
That's pretty thick! Thick enough to let my index finger sink in completely.
NOT TICKLISH BUT IT POPS A LITTLE
I've watched people using the Elizavecca one, so I was afraid this one would tickle because my face is quite ticklish. Luckily that didn't happen or else, you won't be seeing this many pictures LOL. There's also no irritation on my very sensitive upper lip area or anywhere else, which is a plus point 👍🏼. I could hear some bubbles popping at the edge of the mask near my ears (that's probably the reason why I could hear them). Although the mask does have a strong smell if you smell inside of the package directly before taking it out, the smell subsided and was almost unnoticeable while I was using the mask. It is a sweet fruity scent that is pleasant to my nose.

Hmm, it's blocking my nose a little.
CUT THE MASK OR NOT?
I didn't expect the mask to bubble up so much so that it'd slip into my mouth and slightly block my nose while I breathed. I thought it tasted bitter (yucks) and no, I definitely won't want that to happen again the next time I use the mask. About the nose issue, it's not a very big problem to me since I can easily wipe away the foam using my finger. If you want to avoid the problem entirely, just cut off the area before you put on the mask. I don't recommend you to cut it while the mask is on your face as you may risk cutting yourself, although you can try with caution.
The bubbles were getting a little crazy (almost five minutes) so it's time to wash off.

Can you see the bubble at the nose area?
The mask continued to bubble up even after removal.
Right after peeling off the mask.
IT'S FUN BUT DOES IT WORK?
My skin felt smooth and soft. It also felt hydrated like I just fed it with a hydrating mask. There was a slight tightness but I was okay with it as a few drops of toner fixed that up for me. My pores look slightly smaller and the most prominent difference is that the pimple on my chin looked less red. I also thought that my face looked slightly brighter. Since Jolse also mentioned on its website that the foam from the mask can act as a cleanser, I used the mask in the morning as a substitute to my morning cleanser.
DEFINITELY THE GOOD KIND OF SURPRISE
I personally love the mask. It is fun to use and can spark some conversation if someone ever spots you in this. Not to mention the fact that you can make a funny Instragram story out of this! Of course, a product is only worthy if it does what it promises and I thought this mask is in the worth-a-try category. Seriously, I would buy it and use it again because first, it is a sheet mask that bubbles up and second, it is not too expensive. You can get each mask for as low as RM6.18 (sigh, if not for the exchange rate, it is only USD1.44) from Jolse. It might be slightly higher compared to your usual sheet mask but this one is not your usual sheet mask.
Oh I almost forgot, the fit is okay, I have a hairline higher than most.
Where to buy:
Jolse - USD7.63 (RM32.70) for five packs (discounted price)
Jolse - USD14.43 (RM61.80) for ten packs (discounted price)
