|REVIEW| I Love This Oil: Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil

Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil review

OIL FOR OILY SKIN?
I've always doubted the use of cleansing oil. It felt dirty and I simply couldn't accept putting more oil on my skin which is already uncontrollably oily at the T-zone. But this was before I learnt about the Korean skincare routine, where double cleansing with oil is a norm and a highly praised method to remove all the makeup and dirt off my face. Ever since I knew about the reason behind it, I've never once skipped one day not oil-cleansing my face. Today, let's talk about my favourite: the Dear Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil.

STRANGER THINGS IS ALMOST HERE!
If you remember, I actually promised to write a review on this in August (check out my other Klairs reviews) and look what month it is now LOL! I really don't know what I've been doing in the past few weeks. It just flew by and now October is coming with Stranger Things Season 2 just around the corner (any fans here? 🙋🏻). Maybe this is how life is like when you start working, time just passes without you knowing. Gosh, I'm not even ready to age!

NEVER SLEEP WITH MAKEUP
So, I must make sure I do my part well. Number one rule: always clean my makeup properly before I pass out on my bed. "No remnants no wrinkles" is my ultimate goal right now. That's why this Dear Klairs Cleansing Oil is my favourite. It manages to remove all traces of makeup without any trouble. The best of all? It doesn't sting my eyes. Hence I can rub this all over my face without having to switch between a cleanser that stings and one that doesn't. (Why do I feel like I'm reading an advertisement there HAHAHA)

INGREDIENT LIST
I copied this from Wishtrend's website. Yay! Don't have to manually translate everything HAHA!

Note: Bolded are the star ingredients in the product whereas underlined are those flagged as 3 & above under 'Safety index'. Safety index ranges from 1-9 and the lower the number means the less hazardous. Those with asterisks (*) are more likely to cause acne than those without.

p.s. Read on for a decode of the bolded ingredients!

FACE STAYS CLEAR
When I was deciding which cleansing oil to get myself, Klairs was the apparent number one choice because of the good reviews I read everywhere. So you can imagine how surprised I was to see the ingredient list containing so many asterisks because the one best thing about it is that it doesn't cause breakouts. I've never once experienced any irritation or breakout from this cleansing oil even though my skin has become really sensitive lately due to the Traditional Chinese Medicine that I'm consuming. Its deep cleansing properties are truly my hero in this aspect!

WATERPROOF MAKEUP, POOF!
Now let's look at its cleansing ability. The main reason I love this so much is how it manages to remove my waterproof liner and mascara without too much rubbing. Usually after a few seconds of being in contact with my skin, it is able to melt my waterproof makeup, leaving no trace of dark liner and mascara behind when I rinse it all off with water. You can see in the pictures below, when I try to use my Bioderma Sensibio H2O to double check, the cotton pad came off clear.

Look at the cotton pad, it's totally clean!

For you to see the effect of its cleansing ability.

SO WHAT MAKES IT SO GOOD?
The oil feels very gentle on the skin and it comes with a relaxing smell that closely resembles those therapy oil they use during my massage session. It is actually made up of various vegetable oils that I heard are good for our skin. From the ingredient list above, you can see that this Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil contains natural oils extracted from black bean, black sesame and black current seed. Let's look at each of the seed oil extracts in details.

Black Bean Oil
It is able to help control sebum production and soothe the skin as well as increase our skin elasticity. See? Oil is not always bad for oily skin!

Black Sesame Oil
This has the ability to help prevent dehydration and skin ageing. By containing Beta-carotene, Rinolenic Acid, Sesamin, Sesaminol and Tocopherol, it manifests powerful antioxidant effect which is exactly what I want to have in my routine to achieve my ultimate goal!

Black Currant Seed Oil
I've seen Black Currant mask but this is my first time seeing black currant seed oil being used in skincare. Being rich in minerals and vitamins, black currant seed oil can strengthen our skin's protective layer to prevent moisture loss from our skin. Similar to Black Sesame Oil, it can also promote skin cell regeneration and provide antioxidant effect to our skin (me love! 😍).

NOW, HOW TO USE?
With a pump design, this one is super easy to use. Usually I'll just take one pump and it'd be sufficient to cover my larger than usual face. But first and foremost, you must make sure you hand and your face is 100% dry so that it can work effectively. All you need to do is gently massage your skin and you might feel a very mild warming sensation on your skin. Once you feel that your makeup is adequately melted, do not wipe off with tissue but rinse off with lukewarm water for 2 to 3 times until no milky residue is left on your skin. After that, I always follow up with my Corine De Farme Foam Cleanser to ensure nothing is left behind.

This is the milky residue I was talking about.

FINAL NOTE
I really don't know how to be unbiased when it comes to Klairs. All their products that I've tried so far are seriously too good and they have not even disappointed me once! Well, if the price could drop a little I'd be glad to keep on repurchasing until the end of my life. So, yes, highly recommend if you're going to buy a new cleansing oil for yourself and if you have the budget! This one is also a great gift because it is suitable for all skin types as it doesn't break me out nor cause my skin to become excessively oily / dry. I promise, you will never regret the RM90+ you spend!

Can you even tell which one is before makeup and which one is after removal using Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil? HAHA!

  5. I've tried the sample before. Don't really like it because it is so hard to remove my mascara. But the plus point is, it doesn't makes my eyes cloudy

  13. I always find it funny that oils are often needed to counteract oil on the face, haha! Also, great reminder to us all to NEVER sleep with makeup on - it's so so bad for our skin, can't believe I ever used to do it!! Have a lovely week :)
