nada soda pore care pack review

LONG TIME NO SEE
After my last review on the Rivecowe Bubble Mask Pack, I'm back with another bubble mask! This is the Nada Soda The Pore Care Pack which I got from Jolse. I know! The name doesn't say anything about 'bubble' and that was me being sceptical when I first saw it on Jolse. All I could tell is that it is for my pores and I really had zero idea about how the mask would act until I saw its packaging in the picture below.

SMELLS LIKE SODA
Looking at the girl's face, which has bubbles on both sides of her cheeks, I was guessing it would bubble up. And it does! But only if used correctly and I only discovered it after four uses. Want to learn how? Hehe, read on! When I first opened it up, the smell of soda rushed towards my nose. If you have tried Chica Y Chico Topping Star Mask & Powder Kit, this smells exactly like the mixture of the mask and the powder. If you haven't, it smells like unflavoured carbonated water, something fresh but not overwhelming. I'm addicted to the smell!

Everything on the box is in Korean. The longer list is the ingredient list (translated below). On the tub itself spells the instructions.

INGREDIENT LIST
I tried my best to copy and translate (with the help of Uncle Google of course) the ingredient list.

(Skincarisma)
Purified Water, Kaolin, Bentonite, Glycerin, Disiloxane, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, *Butylene Glycol, Titanium Dioxide, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Panthenol (Provitamin of B5), Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, *Dimethicone, Xanthan Gum, Allantoin, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Cichorium Intybus (Chicory) Root Oligosaccharides, Betaine, Sodium Hydroxide, Oregano Leaf Extract, Spearmint Extract, Lemon Balm Extract, Bergamot Leaf Extract, Basil Leaf Extract, Sage Extract, Yogurt Extract, Rice Extract, Totarol, Decyleneglycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, *Hexyleneglycol, Fragrance, Sodium Chloride, Glutathione, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Benzoate, Hydroxypropylcyclodextrin, Acrylate / C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer

Note: Bolded are the star ingredients in the product whereas underlined are those flagged as 3 & above under 'Safety index'. Safety index ranges from 1-9 and the lower the number means the less hazardous. Those with asterisks (*) are more likely to cause acne than those without.

From the list, it looks like this is going to help draw out impurities (kaolin and bentonite) and has the abilities in brightening up our skin (rice extract) and moisturising it (butylene glycol, panthenol and glutathione). Panthenol is also known for its ability in promoting wound healing!

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTIONS
On the tub itself, the instructions weren't clear about how I should use to ensure the mask bubbles up. All it says is: spread evenly over the entire face except for the eyes and mouth, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water if the bubble bursts enough for 10-15 minutes. That was it and mine didn't bubble up at all. So how?

Now let's see how it looks like inside.

Opening up, it comes with a protectant lid.

INITALLY DISAPPOINTED
If you noticed, in the above picture where I put it on my hand, it didn't bubble up. Instead, it dried down like a clay mask. I was so disappointed in the beginning because of that. I've always looked forward to finding a replacement for the Chica Y Chico Topping Star Mask & Powder Kit because that one is RM75 for just 12 uses. If this one works out well (it does in the end!) and give me similar number of uses, it only costs me RM40 (RM39.85 to be super accurate) and hence much more affordable.

Instead of bubbling up, it dried down and cracked.

SO WHAT HAPPENED?
On my fourth try, I eventually realised what's wrong. I actually just hadn't put on enough mask! Silly me. All I had to do is just increase the thickness of the mask and it'd just bubble up uncontrollably (see picture below) in the 10 to 15 minutes we're supposed to have it on. The bubbling process was accompanied by some light sizzling sound, assuring me that the mask was carrying out its work in drawing out dirts and impurities from my skin. It didn't tickle nor did it sensitise my skin. It just felt like I had a layer of mask on.

p.s. Terrible sorry for the darker pictures below! I was trying my best to get the bubbles to show up on screen.

CORRECT
Fourth time trying. This time I had put on enough and look, it foamed up!

A side view showing you the layer of 'foam' on my nose.

PLAYING WITH THE FOAM
When I tried to scrape the foam, the base felt so sticky. Stickier than any clay mask I've used before. The foam itself didn't feel like what came out of the Rivecowe Bubble Mask Pack at all. It reminded me of the mold on bread, which by the way is disgusting to me, only this is in white (okay, much less disgusting). At this point, I'm not even sure what I should call the thing I scraped off from my face. It didn't feel like foam and it certainly didn't look bubble-ish.

Scraping off... That's me wearing my China Glaze Nail Polish from Lush N' Blush. Till now I still can't believe I actually managed to paint it so nicely, must be the nail polish!

Things I scraped off. They don't look like bubble at all.

Fifth time trying. This time I put on even thicker than the fourth time and I got chipmunk cheek on one side. The sizzling sound was non-stop throughout the whole 13 minutes I had the mask on.

Scraping off after 13 minutes, the foam is obviously much thicker.

USE A SPONGE TO CLEAN
After 15 minutes of fun, I washed off the mask with water using a sponge. I prefer using sponge to wash off my mask now because I realised it cleans much quicker and much cleaner without wasting as much water. I'd highly recommend you to grab some sponges for yourself from the drugstore! It is important to help conserve the environment in every way we can and we can start small from these little steps. Also, you can save a few minutes here and there without dirtying the floor (you'll know what I mean if you've used a wash-off mask before and look at the bathroom floor after haha).

Skin is less oily. Please note that the saturation of both photos are not entirely the same and the results may not be the same on every skin type.

IT BRIGHTENED UP MY SKIN
The one thing that was most apparent to my eyes was the brightened skin tone. My face clearly looked brighter and some of the redness, although not all, seemed to have subsided a little. Since this is a pore care pack, of course we have to look at my pores. Honestly, I didn't see a huge change. It might have shrunken a little but the difference wasn't immediately visible to my camera, nor my flawed eyes. Over the next few days after using the mask, my face stayed clear and no breakout was observed. 😀

FINAL NOTE
This is a mask for all skin type and so far it fared well on both the oily and dry parts of my face. It didn't dry out the drier part of my skin while it sucked away the sebum from the oilier parts. Although it is a wash-off mask that seems a little troublesome to me, it helps clear out my clogged pores which sheet mask cannot usually do. What I really love about this mask is how it is able to brighten up my skin tone to give a more energetic look. I'd highly recommend it if you're looking for something to temporarily reverse that dull-looking skin! Just make sure you use a super thick layer to get it to foam up!

  4. I've still not used bubble mask before but really would like to try. Now I know that we need to use a sufficient amount before the bubble forms.
