I've introduced this mask before when I gave my review after buying from Hermo. Basically I bought this mask when it was on sale and it was the greatest deal ever! Sister Diary named this snail slime mask Peptide Mucin Mask. I wouldn't even have taken a second look at it if it weren't for the reviews on Hermo. It is not until a few moments ago that I realised its logo even features a snail. How did I miss that?
I am very into snail products lately and am starting my snail product journey with sheet masks, eye cream (MIZON) and essence (BENTON). So whenever I spot a snail mucin mask that is affordable and of good quality, I wouldn't think twice to lay my fingers on them because good things don't wait!
Sister Diary (Simplified Chinese: 姐妹日记, Traditional Chinese: 姊妹日記) is manufactured by a Taiwanese biotechnology company but researched and developed in Japan. At first when I discovered the brand, I thought it is a sister brand of My Beauty Diary (read my review on the My Beauty Dieary Aloe Mask). Turns out, it is not. I've been trying to dig out the company behind Sister Diary masks but to no avail. My lovely readers, if you happen to know, do share with us in the comment section below!
This is how the package looks like. The top line of Chinese words on the bottom is the name of the mask whereas the bottom line describes the mask's functions.
The bottom line reads:
Locks in moisture effectively, tightens and smoothens.
Each box contains 10 masks. I'm now on my second box!
Everything about the mask looks great to me and I think they look pretty similar to MBD. However I am not a fan of the box packaging because it takes up so much storage space. As you can see from this picture above, although there are still nine pieces of mask in the box, the empty space is much larger than necessary to fit in another mask to make it ten. Is this to make sure the masks do not get pressed against each other during transportation or is it simply a tactic to attract beauty addicts like us (bigger is more)? Readers, what do you think?
Water, Butylene Glycol, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, PEG-12, Jojoba Esters, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan) Extract, Collagen, Calendula Officinalis Extract, Roe Extract, Elastin, Xanthan Gum, Niacinamide, Yucca Vera Extract, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Sodium Hyaluronate, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Fragrance
Here comes the part most of you are waiting for: How do we use it? Before I plunge in, let me translate the words behind the packaging for some of us who are having trouble deciphering the Chinese characters.

So how do I use it? After washing my face, I put on toner, essence and serum before the mask. Upon removing the mask, I splash my face with water before continuing with my eye cream and moisturiser. Wait! Didn't the instructions say it is not required to wash off the residue? Well, read on to find out why I did that.
Remember to never leave your mask on for too long until it dries out! It will reverse any moisturising effect the mask gave you which none of us wants happen! My advice, set an alarm for 15 minutes, sit back, relax and enjoy some music. Let the alarm do the job of watching the clock for you! Even if you fall asleep, you have your alarm to wake you up. :)
I've said this maaaaany times and I'm sure many of you already know that I love my masks cold. I particularly enjoy the moment the cold mask goes onto my skin and sends a chilling sensation down my spine where my mind goes "Ahhh~~~".
I love how it feels on my skin. Being a cotton mask, it is comfortable on my skin and doesn't slide at all. So I can still happily work on my blog while I enjoy the benefits of this mask. It is also the thinnest mask I've ever come across, even thinner than MBD! I torn the masks so many times I've lost count so be extra careful while using this mask. If you are using 100% of your attention to make sure you don't accidentally tear the MBD masks, use 200% for this. Although, each of them do come with a pearl paper to help keep the occurrence of such accidents low.
The mask has a faint floral smell that doesn't go away when I was using it. I'm not bothered by the smell since it is pleasant and soothing. But if you're not a fan of fragranced products this might not be suitable for you.
Onto the cut-out, I think the mask is rather disproportionate. It doesn't cover my upper forehead but it covers over the bottom of my chin. The phylum part is also way too long that the mask goes on to cover my upper lip as well which I really dislike. It gives this stinging sensation that lasts a while even after I remove it. However, it does have very small eye holes which is great to ensure the eyes get to absorb some of the essence too. The cut-out around the nose is also one of the best out of many masks that I've tried. It reaches into the creases of the nose and helps hydrate the areas which I deeply appreciate!
Hi.
Also, the mask is soaked in unusually high amount of essence, so much more than MBD or any other masks I've used before! Look at how much essence it had left in the package after I've taken out the mask.
I've tried to store the essence in a small glass container to use the next morning but I find that my face tends to break out whenever I use the remaining essence in this way. But instead of wasting it, I now pour it out on my face before I put on the mask to make the most of the extra essence. Tips: You may want to do this in the bathroom.
My skin always feels much more moisturised and much smoother after using the mask. So the mask does deliver what it promised on these two aspects. It also tightens a little but I could only detect it if I forcibly stretch my lips to its maximum.
As always, there is a however.
The thin film of stickiness it leaves on my face will almost always cause breakouts the next day if I don't wash it off. Now you know why I wash it off. But I believe this depends on your skin type and for me, I have to do that to keep breakouts from happening. Luckily, this is the only side effect (minus the stinging sensation on my lips) I face which is easily resolved. Do note that because every skin is different, results may vary for different skin type. What's best for me may not be the best for you. Always try to do a patch test before putting the mask onto your whole face.
Q&A
Do you think Sister Diary Mucin Peptide Mask is worth it?
With such quality, the mask is totally worth the value since it only costs RM1.90 per piece! I'm using it every two days to keep my skin moisturised.
So... now comes the most important question: where to get the masks in Malaysia?
I got two boxes i.e. 20 pieces from Hermo Malaysia at RM38.20 (GST Incl.) while it was on sale. If you're interested you can check it out at Hermo!
