WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMON, MAKE LEMONADE
Yay! I'm back for my second review on a HME product. Can't believe I manage to do this even though I've been really busy with work. Life as an auditor is really no joke HAHA. By the way, in case you didn't see my last post on the HME Milky Jelly Toning Essence, just want to say that I'm planning to have a new series talking about work which I will share here. If you ever wonder how it's like to work in one of the big four audit firms, be sure to stay tuned!

A REMINDER
So I'm not going to spend too much time repeating the same old thing I wrote in my last post. Basically I'm here to continue my guide on how to get chok chok skin and a review on the Half Moon Eyes Pink Fruity Wash-Off Mask. Without further ado, let's jump straight into the review!
TIME TO SMOOTHEN IT ALL
The chok chok look isn't just about having a moisturised and dewy look but a clean and smooth complexion. It's easy to achieve the moisturised skin part with sufficient use of toner and moisturiser but when it comes to having a smooth complexion, it takes more effort. For me, this is where a good mask plays an important role.
HALF MOON EYES PINK FRUITY WASH OFF MASK
Half Moon Eyes Pink Fruity Wash Off Mask (3, each of 10g for RM20.70)
Introduction
This is the first pink clay mask I've come across. To more accurately describe the colour, I'd say it is a pinkish salmon. When I first saw it, I thought it's a normal moisturising mask. It's not until I started applying on my skin that I actually realised it works as a clay + exfoliating + cooling mask . Being the only HME mask, it is soft and it has a creamy texture and what differentiates it from the rest of the clay mask (other than being pink), is that it comes with this tiny black particles (which can exfoliate).
It came in a capsule form. It reminds me of the tasty butter capsule which I absolutely love. Can you see the tiny black particles hidden underneath?
Ingredient List
(Skincarisma)
*Talc, Water, Glycerin, Kaolin, Glyceryl Stearate, Bentonite, 1,2-Hexanediol, Montmorillonite, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Panthenol, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Xanthan Gum, Allantoin, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Polyethylene, Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Fragrance, Lactose, Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Disodium EDTA, Butylene Glycol, Hylocereus Undatus Fruit (Dragonfruit) Extract, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, *Squalane, Carbomer, *Hydroxypropylcellulose, Red 33 (CI 17200), Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Extract, Snail Secretion Filtrate, Dipropylene Glycol, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, Sodium Palmitoyl Proline, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Seed Extract, Nymphaea Alba Flower Extract, Sodium Metabisulfite, Swiftlet Nest Extract, Honey Extract, Pentylene GlycolNote: Bolded are the star ingredients in the product whereas underlined are those flagged as 3 & above under 'Safety index'. Safety index ranges from 1-9 and the lower the number means the less hazardous. Those with asterisks (*) are more likely to cause acne than those without.
Kaolin
A famous ingredient in all clay masks, kaolin is able to absorb impurities and dirt from our pores, thereby cleaning them and helping to prevent them from clogging our pores. Not just that, it also has the ability to remove and control sebum, making it an ideal ingredient for oil-controlling masks.
Hylocereus Undatus Fruit Extract
So those tiny black particles are in fact the seeds of dragonfruits. As a cactaceous plant that is able to grow and survive in the dessert, it contains a high moisture content. This enables the mask to quickly moisturise our skin (to give the chok chok effect) and plump up our appearance. Because dragonfruits are also rich in polysaccharides, this mask also comes with a skin tightening effect (see my opinion below).
This seems a little too much for my whole face.
How to Use
The first thing you need to do before you open up the mask capsule, is thoroughly cleanse your face. Then layer it with a little of the HME Milky Jelly Toning Essence. Make sure you do all those before opening up the mask because I didn't use mine immediately after opening (I was taking a lot of pictures haha) and I thought it hardened a little. Once you tear it open, quickly start applying to avoid any difficulty in spreading the mask and pulling on your skin (which totally defeats the purpose of doing the mask). One thing you have to be careful of is not to break the black particles while applying.
Follow me:
On the left I have the mask on, on the right is how my skin tone actually looks before the mask.
How to Use (Contd.)
After that, just set a timer of 10 minutes (recommended time) and go do whatever you want to. The mask will slowly dry and change colour. When you start seeing cracks, it's better to wash it off (you can choose to just wash off the cracked areas) even before the timer hits 0:00. It's because at this stage, the mask will start sucking the moisture away instead of providing it. According to the instructions printed on the back of the box, you might even feel some tingling sensation (see my opinion below) while having the mask on and it's totally normal.
The mask actually cracks a little.
Tips:
If you look carefully in the picture above, you can see I actually applied some on my neck because there's simply too much in one for just my face and I didn't wanna waste it. You can do the same too!
How to Use (contd.)
When the 10 minutes ends, wash it off (with or without a sponge, but I highly recommend one). Now, you're allowed to break the black particles as you go. I'm not very sure about the benefits of doing so and I can't do a "breaking & not breaking" because no matter how careful I try to be, I always accidentally break some! Grr. Yes, they are that fragile and I suspect there is an increase in fragility as the mask dries down. So, just casually wipe the mask off your face and the particles will break.
The particles are breaking and staining my sponge.
My Opinion
The mask comes with a strong berry-fruity smell. If you're not a fan of such smell but you really want to try this mask out, it's okay too because it disappears a while after putting on a face. It doesn't linger after you wash it off too. During application, my face felt a bit warm and there's a tingling sensation all over my face with some burning sensation at the area above my upper lip. My upper lip area has always been very sensitive to masks so I wasn't paying a lot of attention to it. But when I read some reviews written by other bloggers, I came across one that felt burning sensation all over her face so I'd highly recommend you to patch test especially if you have a skin more sensitive than others.
This is right after application.
My Opinion (contd.)
For my neck, the mask was very cooling and comfortable I was almost reluctant to remove it when the timer struck 0:00. Whereas on the oilier parts of my face, like my nose, I can literally feel something sucking on my pores *gasps*. I've never had sensation like that one before and I actually look forward to more masking sessions with more HME Pink Fruity Masks because of that LOL. I also thought it is quite hard to clean especially if you plan to go in with your hands. I would suggest you get a sponge and lightly wipe the mask away with a wet one.
After some wiping and washing and wiping and washing, my face finally looked visibly clear of the mask and felt super clean. As I move my mouth around to test how my skin look and felt, the tightening effect kicked in and my pores looked visibly smaller than before (see first picture below). So, the dragonfruit seeds do work! My skin also appeared brighter than it was before the mask which I was really happy about!
COMPARING PORE SIZE ONLY
Left: An old picture showing how my skin normally looks without anything on.
Right: How my skin looks after HME Pink Fruity Wash Off Mask.
My Opinion (contd.)
You can see that my skin looks more hydrated and the fine lines & pores appear less visible. I'm a big fan of these results! Do note that the above picture is only to show you the change in pore size. The mask did not cause any breakout nor irritate my skin.
p.s. pictures are taken at different times of the day so the apparent "change" in skin tone is not properly demonstrated in the above picture.
COMPARING SKIN TONE (ACTUAL BEFORE VS AFTER)
This is an actual before and after the mask. You can see that my skin has brightened up a little and a little pinkish tone was added to it giving it a healthy glow!
Recommend?
Second step to achieve chok chok skin is done and I'm loving what I'm getting so far. A more moisturised skin that glows beautifully is key to a good chok chok look. Therefore, I'd recommend this one if you're into the pinkish glow!
