|REVIEW| My Fave Sheet Mask: PDC Liftarna Concentrate Mask

I think this photo is pretty decent. 🤔

VERY LONG INTRO
Hello everyone! Yeah I know, I don't normally greet but this time is different. I am doing a blog detox! If you're wondering what a blog detox is, let me explain a little. There's this blogger community in Malaysia called The Butterfly Project (TBP in short) which I joined in May. TBP hosts a monthly detox event for us beauty/skincare bloggers to follow where we sit down and just share about a product.

So... what's the difference with what I'm doing now? Isn't that what I do already?

For the posts I normally do, I will always set aside half a day, usually a Saturday or Sunday when I don't have to work (not that I'm working now anyway, at least not until September 😐) to take photos.

I will take tonnes of photos for each angle and search within them the best to post here. I will even spend days looking for the right decor and wait for the best lighting before I start every photoshoot session (see my effort? 😢). I sometimes also go to great length to edit them to make sure the lighting and background are perfect just so they'll go nicely with the theme of the blog.

That's a lot of effort! 🤷🏻‍♀️

But with blog detox, it is more casual! Everything will be kept sweet and simple (although I still try to make sure the photos are as nice as possible). The photos in this post were still taken with my DSLR. But they were taken impromptu while I was doing a mask, with lighting ignored and minimal to no decor. I hope you'll enjoy it!

Too many emojis? Oops.

SUPER AFFORDABLE MASKS!
This is a mask pack that comes with 7 pieces of masks. They are rich with charcoal and contain 100% rayon of kneading coal component, which gives it great adhesion on the skin. I bought mine in a pharmacy store at 300 yen (around RM11, so RM1.60 per mask) while I was in Japan (check out my posts on How I Planned My Trip to Japan here and here) if I remember correctly. Quite cheap I'd say! Since I'm a student I always try to look for masks below RM3 and this one fits perfectly.

BLACK MASKS
After ripping off the top, as shown in the picture above, I stored mine in the fridge. Inside the package, there are seven sheets of mask folded nicely and soaked in the essence made up of:

– 3 types of vitamin C (stabilized, high penetrating and immediate action)
– collagen, retinol and soy
– artichoke leaf extract
– deep sea mineral water

These ingredients are able to help nourish, repair and hydrate the skin as well as tightening the pores. Sounds perfect for my skin especially for the *cough* lack of proper *cough* skincare these days due to me falling ill.

Here are the all the ingredients in the mask which I translated (with Google's help of course) from Japanese:

(Skincarisma)

Water, Butylene Glycol, Ethanolamine, Glycerin, Angelica Archangelica Leaf Extract, Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Soluble Collagen, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Aminopropyl Ascorbyl Phosphate, Rubus Fruticosus (Blackberry) Fruit Extract, Black Sugar Extract, Malt Extract, Citrus Sinensis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Oxidized Corn Oil, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Xanthan Gum, Polysorbate 80, Citric Acid, Zinc Citrate, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Fragrance

The vitamin A, soybean seed extract and citric acid in this mask have anti-ageing properties while ascorbyl glucoside are able to brighten up our skin tone. However, do note that citric acid, the orange fruit extract as well as the lemon fruit extract may irritate your skin if you have a particularly sensitive one!

Don't know why this looks like seaweed to me

SWEET SCENT & SLIMY
I'm not really a fan of the smell. It is a bit on the sweet side, with a faint floral (I'm thinking rose) scent. I love a good scent, but something this sweet sometimes fails to win my heart. As for the liquid, it is slimy and slightly gooey but definitely colourless.

The masks got soaked in it really well so each time I pulled out one, the essence would still be dripping. I reckon that's because I put the mask pack flat in the fridge instead of upright. Hence I'd recommend you to do the same! It shall spread the essence more evenly to each and every mask so you'd not be left with a dry mask at the very end.

It has a ziplock to let you store the rest of the masks for use later

YES IN THE FRIDGE
You know me, I'm a cold mask addict. That's why this one has been in the fridge right after I opened it to use for the first time. Having it cold on my face was the best feeling ever. I would pull open the ziplock, take one mask out, pop it on my face, then kick back and enjoy an episode of Stranger Things (aww the best time ever). Also, I think this prevents the mask from drying out as well as being exposed to dust in the store room (yeap, now you know it, I keep my masks in the store room!).

IS IT GOOD?
So now comes the big question. How well did this mask do? Honestly? Other than the smell, I love it (this my fave sheet mask for now!). I didn't use the masks consecutively for seven days. I feel like it's a waste for me to use them like that but it worked great still!

After cleansing my face, I'd put the mask on for 10 minutes (the recommended time is 5-10 minutes as shown in the picture above). Upon taking it off, my face felt very moisturised. There would always be some leftover essence so I would pat it in (recommended!) then wash it off at night before I continued with my routine (I like to do mask in the afternoon).

My skin felt super moisturised and calm after using the mask

LASTED FOR DAYS!
I didn't see any immediate effect but my face tended to stay calm and clear for days after the use of the mask. I didn't expect it to do much since it's just a sheet mask but boy was I wrong. The essence in the mask somehow managed to work its magic in the short 10 minutes it was on my skin. I'm curious what wonder it'd do if I didn't wash it off at the end of the day!

The fit is pretty good for my huge face. Although I wish it could cover more of my forehead HAHA. Also, please forgive my standing baby hair and messy outfit.

SUCH A WINNER
It's a sheet mask that does what it says. That's how it was named my favourite sheet mask. And yes, I am recommending you to purchase this to try if you happen to visit Japan! To purchase it outside of Japan, you can try Amazon but I only managed to find the 32-piece pack selling at USD18.99, which is pricier in my opinion!

p.s. Do bear in mind that what is great for my skin may not be great on yours, since our skins are totally different and the weather matters too!

What is your current favourite sheet mask? Share with me in the comment section below!

Thank you for reading, see you in the next post!

    1. Hello Maple! Really? Why not? Did you have bad experience with charcoal mask? I think this is not bad! It's my second charcoal mask but first in the form of sheet mask. The previous one is a wash off mask from Taiwan and I quite like both haha. Try it when you have the chance! :D
